Peugeot 207 - De pollution system fault - Mistakesweremade
Looking for a little help with my Peugeot 207 1.6 hdi. (57 plate). I have had it a few months now and it had developed an intermittent EGR fault - causing it to lose power and the regain it after a plume of thick black smoke. As of today the engine management light has come on and the warning message - depollution system faulty -

Could this be down to the EGR valve? I know that these cars have a reputation and I can safely say I will never purchase another. I'm just looking for a solution that's not going to break the bank (because it's already broke to be honest!)

Any and all help is appreciated.

More likely a DPF issue, or maybe running out of Eolys Fluid which needs renewing.

Could equally be a DPF issue, most Peugeots of this age have them. You need a good Peugeot specialist to diagnose the issue accurately.

The 1.6 HDi in a 207 of this age only has a DPF in the 110 bhp version - at least in my handbook.

When I got mine 7 years ago the salesman said I would be 'better off without a DPF' .....

There is nothing magical about the EGR valve. It simply opens and closes. It should be closed when the engine is at idle and at full load, and opens under cruise conditions to allow some exhaust gas into the air intake, which then reduces combustion temperature and consequently NOx emissions. The EGR system serves no other purpose than that. If yours fails to close when required it would give a symptom of poor running, and have an effect on airflow via the MAF sensor. This could generate a fault code, but not necessarily.

If the EGR valve is coked up with carbon then it's equally likely that the whole air intake downstream of it will also be.

That is certainly true for the Focus when fitted with the same engine so no reason for it not to apply to the Peugeot.
