VW Polo 85PS DSG 7 Speed AUTO - Help pls - which is correct ENGINE OIL? - Clio87

Hi,

Pls can anyone tell me the correct engine oil for my car?

It is a VW Polo automatic DSG 7 speed 85PS.

Just for topping up purposes in-between services.

It has around 16,000 miles.

Have put in reg no in Eurocarparts and Halfords sites and this tells me two different types:

5W30 or

5W40

Not sure which one to buy - does it make a difference or would either of these two do?

Also any recommendations re make - don't want to buy the actual VW one as it's more expensive.

It will not make the slightest difference which one you use it also tells you in the car manual which oil to use.

As well as the viscosity, but more importantly you need to specify the ACEA grade (or the VAG Approval Number) because the wrong ACEA grade will wreck and engine quicker than the wrong viscosity.

Hi, thanks for the replies. Where can I find the numbers you are talking about please - as I don't have the manual with the car right now.

If you don't have the manual the best thing is to visit your closest VW dealer and buy a topup.

I'd advise going to one of the big oil brands websites where they will have an 'advisor' page, You can type your registration number in and it will tell you the correct oil from their range to use. Castrol, Miller, Q8, Fuchs, Motul, Total etc. They all have them.

And they're not always correct(usually because they're not up to date);read the manual.Halfords (and others)are about a year out of date.

Many have updater the registrations but not the oil requirements!

Millers 'which oil' advisor has been updated properly as it lists a different premium oil for my car than it did prior to the update.
