Second hand-over...

What happens if the dealer or test driver has an accident or gets caught speeding by a camera. The car is registered to the buyer - this could cause lots of trouble.

You have more rights to reject a car within 30 days of buying it and if the dealer holds on to it for a few weeks then this will eat in to your time to reject it if there are any problems.

If the dealer hasn't given you a receipt then the car isn't yours probably isn't event yours yet as registration doesn't prove ownership. If you paid cash and the dealer fails, this could be a problem. Remember the Nissan (Datsun) franchise owner in the UK walked away from customers of failed dealers in the '80s.

It all sounds like a scam to me!

"plus a £60 fine for overstaying the 2 hour motorway services limit (which I refused point-blank to pay)"

You advise anyone receiving a parking "fine" that they have to pay. It seems that you do not practice what you preach.

I would be interested to know how you managed not to pay this.
