Peugeot 207 SW - Total Electrical failure

Peugeot 207 SW - Total Electrical failure - Steveieb
My partners 207 let us down after been left at the airport for five days.
The car started fine but then she noticed that the steering was unassisted and then several warnings
Appeared including power steering , abs etc and the charging light stayed on.
We struggled to the services where the steering was powered intermittently.

The car was recovered after the team diagnosed ? A faulty alternator.

My local garage has checked the car and says there is no problem with the alternator and is baffled.

Has anyone seen this fault before? Must be quite common on the French car which I'm told are notorious for electrical problems.

A bit of a coincidence that this happened after being left at an airport car park for a week.

Are there any indications that the battery has been interfered with? ie has the battery been nicked and an old dodgy one substituted?

Check the main cable earth point on top of the gearbox. Very common for one of the leads to snap off causing all sorts of electrical gremlins.

Turned out to be water ingress in the fuse box, which needed to be replaced due to corrosion.
Understand that the power steering pump is also vulnerable to water ingress.
Must be pretty poor design by Peugeot?

Its one of those faults that only appears long term, i.e. long after the warranty has expired.

Water ingress and rear light wiring burning out are common issues on 207s, and very well documented on the usual forums.
