Fords Mondeo ST220 brake judder

I have a Ford Mondeo ST220 and when braking I get like a "juddering" from the brakes. I can feel it through the steering wheel as I apply the brakes. Any ideas what this might be?

Hotspots on the brake discs from sitting on the brakes when the brakes are hot. The disc around the pads then cools at a different rate from the disc clamped by the pads and the disc warps. Might be possible to have the imbalance skimmed off in situ if there is enough metal left on the discs themselves.
