How much is a 1979 Volkswagen Scirocco GLS worth?

I have a 1979 Volkswagen Scirocco GLS, which has been in my garage undriven for over 30 years. It was left by my father-in-law when he died. Full original condition and undamaged with 45,000 miles. It'seen kept dry, so little rust. I hoped my kids would be interested in restoring it but they prefer new things! I'm wondering what it might be worth now to a restoration enthusiast.

There's definitely a market for cars like this. Classic Volkswagens have a big following and the original Scirocco is now quite a rare car. Unfortunately, it's likely to need quite a lot of recommissioning work, despite being kept in a dry garage. It's a difficult car to value due to its rarity and without a clear idea of its condition. The best option might be to send it to auction. We've seen good results from websites like carandclassic.co.uk, themarket.co.uk and collectingcars.com. If you'd prefer a physical auction company, Anglia Car Auctions runs regular classic car sales which attract a huge amount of interest. I reckon your Scirocco will be right up their street.
