What is better for an MPV - a diesel or petrol?

Diesel seems to be receiving bad press recently and diesel is more expensive than petrol. I intend to buy a nearly new MPV in the near future (probably a Citroen Grand C4 Picasso) and was hoping for your advice on whether I should go for the diesel version or the less common petrol version?

It depends on your mileage. Diesels still make sense if you cover lots of motorway miles. If most of your driving is around town, or you cover less than 12,000 miles a year, a petrol is likely to be a better option.
