  It has to be good on road as well as off but I'm no green laner !.. and I only do about 5,000 miles a year max.   I have a local mechanic who has looked after my cars for over 10 years so no dealer prices for repairs etc..   the engine doesn't quit and after dropping through the gears will idle perfectly and from idle i can rev it up to max without a hitch. it seems as if the engine is failing under (slight) load. the problem my happen twice in 100 miles or not. leaving the engine off for 10 min or so and all is back to normal. the next time the problem occurs could be in another 100 miles or 700 or whenever it feels.

  Touran too expensive would have to go alot older also although these looked great too? Toyota verso was original but with 8 k max the Citroen c4 picasso or Grande can be had for about 8k 2011 model.  This looks great value    Any opinions ! Also some long journeys but also lots of 10 mile trips or so, so I feel petrol is better for us?

  I have taken delivery of my new Golf MK VII  1.4 TSI. I was surprised to see that the oil level was only half way between min and max on the dipstick. I want to get a spare litre of oil  for top up purposes and the manual says I should use VW 502 oil.  I just happen to have a litre of Esso Ultra 10W-40 Semi Synthetic unopened but has an expiry date of 04/2009.

  I am looking for a Crossover and here are my decision criteria in order of preference: Very comfortable ride, especially in London which is ridden with speed bumps and potholes Quiet Automatic (dual clutch or another 'lively' type of box) 9s max for 0-62mph (my current Seat Toledo TDI does just that and I would like to match or better it) Reliable   I don't care much about (although I could live with):  Handling (as long as it is not bad) Looks  Big wheels   So far I shortlisted: Skoda Yeti Elegance DSG 4x4 Mazda CX5 2.2d Volvo XC60 (although I'm not sure about their reliability)   Any pointers or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

  Hi been having a problem with this for the last few weeks  it started with putting it  in reverse or first  when first started it would crunch or just refuse to go in when you got it in gear it would clear and drive normaly for days today it went into gear ok from cold start but after doing approx 10 miles while driving, it  refused to go in any gear moving or stationary when i did manged to get it into gear it would drive normally and then when i pulled on drive it locked up again and stalled and then cleared again the car has done 100,000 miles the clutch fluid is on max the biting point on the clutch is also low any help with this problem would be very welcome thanks

  The Chrysler dealership is quoting £198 for the bulb - the car has factory fitted xenon HID's. Online the max quoted online is £70! I just want to make sure that I can just by a bulb as the garage are telling me that as it's factory fitted I need to buy a whole kit. I am also trying to find out the cost of the wing mirror bits but I have no idea what they are called so can't find them online.

  Can anyone help me please, my car began going into safe mode (engine revs fast but no acceleration and constant speed of 10mph max) after jet washing or driving through water a few months ago.  Once the engine was turned off and allowed to reset it drove perfectly.  My car has now begun to do this on every journey and has even started to bunny hop prior to dropping into safe mode.

  Being a bright lad he has thought laterally and looked at getting a van instead.  A Suzuki 1.3 Carry van will cost him about £1,700 max to buy and about £1,200 to insure. The van actually makes sense for his life style at the moment, he would only be carting his younger brother around to AirSoft meetings and throwing his crap in the back and I suppose he can sleep in it.

  Whilst the car was running I limped it the few yards to home then decided to call the RAC. 2 hours later and car is still smelling like a burning rubber tip and an RAC visit, the patrolman reckons he can't find a fault. I am now very very disillusioned with this megane as I'm still only achieving 35 mpg max from it. As some of you may recall it is a megane III 11 plate, 5 months old with 4,500 miles on the clock.

  I'm looking for a small car for a 15 mile round trip commute (in a city)..and the more research I do the more confused I get..! Would anyone be able to help me out and recommend some motors? I have a max £2k budget (credit card only sadly, so would have to be trade) and will be driving in the city every day, with a 4 hour motorway trip once a month. I don't have a large family (2 peeps + 1 small dog) so don't necessarily need a big car or a big engine.

  Bought car on ebay,didnt mean too......Drove it home 170 miles,fine. Noticed temp gauge only read max of 70 when stationary,just out of the cold zone,when moving. Next day,went on a drive,stopped in traffic,steam coming out of expansion tank,fan not running.temp gauge a bit over 70. Auto electrian took lead off yellow temp sensor,put it back on,and now fan comes on just before 70.

  I've recently had my 55 plate 2.2 diesel engined accord serviced by a Honda main dealer, who first over filled it with oil and then when I asked them to drain it to the correct level, left it half way between min and max! Anyway, anticipating the need for a top up soon, I'm trying to establish what oil to use. According to the service record, they used "0W30 Castrol FS." I've bought some "0W30 Castrol SLX Professional Powerflow."

  Therefore im considering swapping them. Ive always used ferodo before and have been fairly impressed. Im considering the brembo max discs which I have seen or maybe EBC ultimax pads and discs. Does anyone have any opinion on these? What others could I be looking at. I want good stopping power without rediculos prices. {Guessing it's a 2001 2.0 from a forum search - will correct if wrong}

  For example, on ignition it would rev up to 3000 without touching the accelerator, and it would then over rev throughout the journey to a max of 3000. I took it back to the trader who said that he would get it fixed. When I picked it up, it seemed fine again. However, I've started to notice that it revs up to 2000 on ignition again. I've just found out that the garage he took it to just reset the base settings rather than replace any parts.

  Now I don't agree with HJ on everything he writes but it was EGR valve problems (and mis-fueling concerns) that put me off a diesel C Max last year. We have heard various stories on here about the problems mentioned by HJ and there are backroomers who wouldn't buy anything other than diesel because they favour the driving experience.
