  • CHEAP 4x4- ready for a laugh ? 19 Oct 2024 (Forum)
We are now looking for a large 4x4 suitable for 5 adults and 3 dogs just for probably 10 trips or 3k miles max a year All it needs to do.... ready for it ?.. is be good in bad conditions ( snow, rain, maybe even flooding ) , reliable and large enough for us. For reasons I wont go into we probably will be visiting the peak district, wales and maybe scotland at possibly the worse times of the year I totally understand if I buy something for less than £3k I might aswell write the money off and if it lasts 2 or 3 years before it enters sc*** territory thats fine.
  • Tyre side wall partly ripped 3 Feb 2024 (Forum)
The depth of the cut is about 1-2mm and overall size of the cut-out piece, when u look at it from the side, is 20x30mm. Roads here don't get salted and winters are not too harsh and not long (2 months max). Mostly a bit of rain and very little snow/ice. Tyres are sorta new too. I've done 3 winters with them, the DOT is week 24 of 2021. Could someone with knowledge and experience advise me whether or not I should change the tyre or of it's safe to ride as it is.
  • Focus MK2 sized car wanted - automatic 7 Dec 2021 (Forum)
He's down near Plymouth where cars of this sort seem to be thin on the ground. I've suggested a MK2 Focus, MK1 Facelift C-Max. Are these autos reliable? Also thought of Toyota Auris, Honda Jazz, Mazda 3,and Kia Venga. Are there any others we should be thinking of? Thanks.
  • VW Polo - Polo 1.2 diesel 2012 5 Sep 2021 (Forum)
,Can anyone advise whether the 1.2 diesel might make a sensible buy.  She might do an hour on the motorway every 3 weeks or so. Other than that 8 miles max here and there.   Trouble is, the headstrong young don't seem to want advice and want to spend more than they need on something they have chosen for whatever perceived reason. Suppose they have to make their own mistakes.
  • Nissan Primastar - Glow Plug Light P0235 1 May 2021 (Forum)
With the earth and other wire I get around 1.67v on tick over and 2v when I get it up to 2500rpm which is the max it will rev in limp mode. I even tried a boost solenoid out of curiosity but still the same issue. Can anyone point me in the right direction
  • Speeding fines 10 Feb 2021 (Forum)
I earn about 14k a year so that works out at just under £450. My question is should I expect I higher fine seeing as the Max is £2500? And should I plea my mitigating circumstances that it’s a first offence and my good character?
  • Rover 25 1.4 Wreg - LOSS OF HEATER 14 Oct 2018 (Forum)
I only very drive short trips in the Rover 25 about 4 to 6 miles max at a time and recently found split in hose pipe and put tape round hose in emergency to try and slow down loss of water.  I had noticed at same time I had no hot air on my car heater.  It had failed to work at same time of the hose pipe leak.
  • Maybe a CR-V - £5k Diesel Dilemma 28 May 2018 (Forum)
My frustration is that my wife & I like high sitting positions of SUVs & MPVs, and in our searches found that we quite like the Honda CRV. Budget is £5k absolute max not a penny more, so that unfortunately only nabs us a diesel (08/09) with 120k+ on the clock. Not seen much else that looks halfway as nice. Might have to settle for a petrol Scenic...
  • Problem with car - return or repair 8 Feb 2018 (Forum)
I have a 3 month Gold RAC warrenty with it, and the garage are telling me to just go through that to get it fixed but I am: a) concerned the fact the car was delivered with a fault b) worried my warrenty may not cover the issue (electrics for example are not covered) c) worried if my max claim of £100 is possibly a problem. The issue I have is that if I wanted to "reject" the car under distance selling rights I have only 2 days to do that but I can't get my car looked at until after then.
  • Citroen C1 - Advice on first car - C1, Peugot 107 or Aygo 5 Jun 2017 (Forum)
It has to be second hand, and after some research I think I have settled on Citroen C1, Aygo or the 106. I know all are made at the same factory but which should I go for? Has to be 4 doors, and max price...maybe £2000. Ideally £1750. Is there a model thats most reliable from these?  I got the impression I should go for the C1 to avoid paying a premium for the Toyota badge but still getting the same car/engine.

  • Volkswagen Passat - fuel economy for 2.0 litre Passat blue motion 19 Nov 2016 (Forum)
Hi I've just bought a 2012 Blue Motion Passat estate, the advertised figures are around 51mpg/61mpg/72mpg, However I'm personally struggling to get above an average max best of 48mpg from a mixture of motorway and town driving. A full tank of diesel is costing me around £85, for which I've just got 570 miles from full to empty, personally I was expecting quite a bit more, am I expecting too much?...
  • Small car with 6 speed box reccomendations 9 May 2016 (Forum)
Many small cars which would be good for town seem to only have 5 gears which would over run at 4,000rpm on the motorway making them less efficient there. Ideally I want a diesel 1.6ltr 6 speed manual. My budget is max £4,000 so the car would need to be 8-6 years old obviously. Currently I'm looking at the 08' fiesta but they only have 5 gears? Does it matter that much though? Thanks for any advice
