  • Mini Cooper S Convertible 2006 - Smoke coming from engine 13 Jul 2020 (Forum)
Hello! Wondering if anyone can help this damsel in distress?! I have a Mini Cooper S Convertible 2006 plate. The car was serviced and MOT’d on Thursday and all was fine. A few bits under the car were recommended to do but the mechanic told me not to bother. Friday I drove approx 100 miles and no issues.
  • MINI Cooper + Cooper S - EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION 28 Apr 2016 (Forum)
My wife bought a 56-reg Cooper S six months ago.  It has now done 42,000 miles.  Twice it has made an odd noise and we have discovered that it is out of oil.  The first time our garage put in five litres less than the engine and oil filter holds!
  • Jaguar S-Type - ABS and handbrake fault lights 28 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Hi All, I have followed the site but now joined tobe able to ask the advice of the Forum. I am looking at a nice Jaguar S type. On the test drive the ABS and Brake light warning came up, though there seemed no problem with the handbrake operation, and I did not put the ABS to the test. Has anyone any advice as to the cause and possible costs of putting these right?
  • S Type 2.5 SE - Loss of power, why? 24 Apr 2015 (Forum)
I had a diagnostic test on my S Type and was told it had quite a few things that had to be repaired. It all started with a loss of power when driving up hill. I'm told I need two new cats, four Lambdas new plugs and ignition coils, all a result of engine backfire.
  • Jaguar S-type 2.5 v6 - Automatic gearbox jokts 23 Jan 2015 (Forum)
Hi, I have just bought a 03 plate s-type with 130k on the clock, everything seemed fine for around 100 miles but on the way home from work today as I accelerated joining the motor way from around 20-40mph it started to jolt quite badly, the traction control light blinked and it felt like I slid across the road, not sure weather this was just the jolting or sliding, I rang the garage I bought the car from and all they said is that it needs to warm up?
  • Vectra 2.5 V6 S plate - Can't lock the doors. 2 Dec 2013 (Forum)
First time post. I have just purchased a second hand Vectra 2.5 V6 (S Plate). It was a cheap car that had a few problem which have been fixed apart from one thing "I can lock the doors".  It looks like the car was broken into at some point. So, the key i have starts the car from the ignition fine.
  • MINI Cooper S - Is 79,000 miles too high for 58 plate Mini Cooper 30 Sep 2013 (Forum)
I am looking at purchasing 58 plate Mini Cooper S but the mileage is 79k. The price seems quite good at £8000 but I'm not sure if it would be better to buy an older mini with lower mileage. I like this car and it has the lower tax as well as some great features, but I have always had low mileage cars in the past and this mileage worries me slightly.

  • Reliable runabout for Gladys? 31 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Ok my old aunt isn`t really called Gladys but she would like a narrower car to make parking and getting in&out of  vehicle easier in her garage.Plan B is to win the pools/lotto and build a bigger garage. Also don`t think Santa can squeeze a prefab kit in his sack(Trade unions+H&S),so plan A is to find a reliable narrower car than her 2007 fez-bomb.She`s not a fan of the Micra`s looks but did mention Kia,don`t think she wants anything too small.Assume she would buy newish previously owned or new.I haven`t had time to go around supermarket car-parks with a tape measure so has anyone any ideas please?

  • mk4 Golf PD115 and 130 - identifying. 11 Jan 2007 (Forum)
A lot of people are trying to pass off pre 2001 115's as 130's which is physically impossible, so I assume on the crossover cars of mid 2001, it could be hard to tell. Not too bothered which we end up with to be honest, as I'm more concerned about condition and service history, but it would be nice to be able to tell for sure what the car we're looking at is.

  • American Car Reliability 21 Nov 2004 (Forum)
v=e&t=26091&m=267187 Quite a lot of discrepancies between the 2 surveys in your post. For instance the Consumer Report lists the Jaguar S-Type and Jaguar X-Type at the top of the LEAST reliable listings for mid-range cars; this list also includes the Merc S, E, & C Classes and BMW 5 & 7 Series. (Although how Mercedes S Class & BMW 7 Series are listed as 'mid range' cars beats me.)
  • Travel Advice? (not strictly motoring) 3 Apr 2004 (Forum)
But it is for a motoring holiday, and I\'ve been offered so much good advice on here for other parts of the holiday [makes hurt little puppy eyes at moderators] OK, so assuming this hasn\'t been deleted, here\'s my question: We have economy flights booked with BMI across to Chicago, then an American Airline to LA. I was thinking about the possibility of getting the seats upgraded, since it\'s such a long flight, and it\'s our honeymoon.
