Assuming a budget of £10k maximum what would you buy to keep you in oil soaked nirvana and away from the wife during lockdown? Found a few interesting things on sale but all things equal I’d love an 90’s hot hatch like a late 205 GTi 1.9, XR2i, Golf MK II GTi 8v, R19 16v or possibly a more mundane but rarer and often historically more important mainstream car that no one is preserving like a Rover R8 or a Ford Mondeo Mk I.
  • What's the best method for running-in a new EcoBoost? 23 Nov 2016 (Ask HJ)

and have no problem if this is the case.  If you can name it then I’ve probably looked at it, Volvo S40/S60, Ford Focus/Mondeo, Mercedes, Lexus, BMW  3/5, Seat, Honda, Toyota anything in the mid/large hatchback/saloon category I have considered! The last two I was looking at were a Mercedes C Class with 150k and a Lexus IS200 S with 80k, both for around £3,000.
  • Which car to buy? 18 Mar 2008 (Forum)
The cars that I'm considering are as follows:- MG ZT CDTi 04 model on - I like this car a lot, it looks good, drives well (apparently), has the BMW diesel engine but without the BMW problems (failing turbo and inlet manifold). Ford Mondeo TDCi Ghia X 53 reg onwards - love the spec on these following the facelift and I think they're pretty comfortable, tyres should wear slower than the MG, parts will never be a problem but I've heard tales of MAF, EGR and injector problems.
  • You're going to love me... 17 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Assuming things don't change in between now and September (if they do I'll start looking at them again) I've changed my mind slightly. Of course, being me it has to be off the wall. And we've gone from Ford Mondeo to... ...Honda Accord..... Coupe ? They seem to have the power I need (3.0) and I've always liked the look of them. The back is very NSX looking (always a good thing) but obviously it's only 2 doors.
  • Thoughts on replacing Polo 22 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I like the being up high aspect of a 4x4, but the only one I like is the Toyota Rav4, which I suspect is way out of budget! Please don't suggest the MINI, or anything boring by Rover or Ford, but otherwise I'm open to ideas on anything else that's a year or two old as I don't want to buy new! Thanks!

R reg BMW 328i convertible in green, auto and leather. 84k FBMWSH £9,000 provisional. Very nice condition, worth the money if it sold. S reg Jaguar XK8 4.0 in black, auto and leather. 49K FJSH. Way too expensive at £18,800 and even that was provisional! Of the ones that sold the following looked nice: V reg Mercedes E280 2.8 petrol in silver but manual and cloth. 82K FMBSH.
  • What to buy????????? 3 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Following on from Blackbushe's thread on what auto diesel estate to buy. New job, time for newish car, for about 12k. What to buy? Started quite sensible! Ford Focus 1.8/ 2.0 3dr zetec. Prefer 2 litre has 6 disc CD, disc's on the rear, and ABS. Then looked at Mondeo estates 2.0/2.5 in Zetec, Zetec S and Ghia X trim (can't resist 6disc CD and big wheels) good value for money at super sites and such.

  • Ford Fusion - Alarm problem 11 May 2024 (Forum)
Please does anyone know how to permanently disable the alarm on my trusty but rather aged Ford Fusion? It's a 2003 model, petrol, manual, 1600. The alarm and warning lights have gone off with increasing regularity for no apparent reason over the last 6 months. We lost the remote keyfob some years ago, so now depend exclusively on the manual key.
  • Ford Escort - Importing to the UK from South Africa 16 Jan 2024 (Forum)
Hi all, I have been working in South Africa for a while and whilst out there I brought a nice 1978 Ford Escort. I am looking at shipping it back to the UK and was wondering if anyone knew of how to go about it. I am from the UK so its not a case of shipping all my stuff over, its literally just the car.
  • Ford Fiesta - Door won't open from outside 26 Dec 2020 (Forum)
They obtained a new part, and the supplier said they sold quite a few of them, and that it was a known fault. Ford on Twitter, say they are unaware, like the agent. Perhaps it's  case of 'well they would say that, wouldn't they ?' The car runs so well, but I am losing confidence in it. At least the cover for the fuses has not fallen off lately, thanks to Blu-Tack.
  • Ford Kuga - Key fob will not unlock or lock car 5 Jul 2020 (Forum)
I tried starting car with the key fob inside the house, and the display comes up with 'key not detected', so obviously car can still detect if key is present. Is there anything else I can try before I take it to local ford dealer, as they are bound to charge a silly rate just to look.

  • Ford Fiesta EcoBoost 1.0 64-plate - Fiesta EcoBoost going into limp mode 2000rpm 6 Apr 2018 (Forum)
The thing is, no engine problem/management lights or messages are displayed on the dash and no entries are ever made into the engine management unit’s log. We and our main Ford dealer are having real trouble tracking down the cause, so I would be interested to hear from anyone who has experienced similar issues.
