  • Ford EECV PCM 14 Oct 2003 (Forum)
So basically could anyone point me in the right direction for a pin-out diagram, or maybe even suggest an alternative to taking the car to ford - i'd much rather hand the cash to smaller firm that might offer a degree of customer service! All help appreciated, Cheers, Fiestaman.
  • Is Duratec HE engine reliable? 10 Apr 2003 (Forum)
A final query - does anyone know if it is possible to get a discount for 'no p/ex' off the Ford Direct prices, or are they pretty much 'fixed' like 'car supermarket' prices?
  • 2019 Peugeot 2008 1.2puretech 130 EAT6 - Oil burner? 8 Feb 2025 (Forum)
There are 40mm, equating to 1 litre I believe,  between the minimum and maximum marks on the dipstick.  The level is currently 28mm below the max mark which, assuming zero fuel dilution and a regular 25mls per mm, equates to 700mls oil use, i.e. around 14,000 miles per litre.  That seems fine to me.  I shall refill with my usual choice of Castrol Magnatec 0-30 which, despite Halford's robot saying it's probably not suitable for our car, clearly has the required PSA spec B71 2312 printed on the label.
  • EV, PHEV or Petrol???? - What to buy next???? 11 Apr 2024 (Forum)
So on a  sunny day, we have unused power available....(but not this April thats for sure)! So what do we replace the SUV with.  We have a max of £15k to spend. (£6k cash and the SUV trade in). A PHEV?  EV or petrol. Outlander? MG ZS ? Karoq/Ateca/QQ. We wish to stay biggish, so a Leaf/Niro is out......
  • What is more fuel effcient - towing or hauling? 5 Jun 2023 (Ask HJ)
What's the most fuel efficient way to move two tonnes of cargo, a light truck like a Daily or Sprinter or a trailer behind a Toyota Hilux or Isuzu D-Max?...
  • Need a new car, how much should I spend? 2 Feb 2023 (Forum)
Hey all  My car looks like it's on its way out and it may be time for a new old one. I don't have a max budget per se, as I'll be taking out a loan for it (I very recently got a relatively well paying job so I don't have the cash to hand to buy a car outright, but I know  I can cover loan repayments) In theory I could spend up to £5k on a car, but I don't want to do that unless its necessary.
  • Mini Cooper R56 - Mini Cooper R56 - oil consumption, piston rings 15 Oct 2021 (Forum)
When I do this, I find that the dipstick reading is lower than if I check first thing in the morning which goes against the idea that the fully-synthetic oil has expanded. Surely, if I was to top up to the max line by following the manual I could overfill?
  • Volkswagen Touran - Anything to be aware of when purchasing used one? 15 Jun 2021 (Forum)
We do approx 9-10k miles a year with a blend of local nursery drop offs/pick ups during the week and then further distances on the weekend (including into Londons soon-to-be extended ULEZ) as we are active and tend to be out and about. I'm searching for the latest model in the latest shape (2016 onwards) with a max of 40k miles done. Armed with a budget of 15k, that gets us an SE 2016 example with a 1.6 diesel engine.  A few questions for this: 1) are there any gremlins about this car/engine that i should be aware of?
  • Looking for a new Compact SUV 4 Oct 2020 (Forum)
I dislike the former for city driving and not equipped for the later. Will be slightly used/like new. Not looking for new. Want to spend about 20,000 EUROS MAX. I am mainly a weekend suburb driver although due to a recent office relocation I may soon start driving to work (lots of start and stop in heavy traffic). About 50 KM a day. I was playing around with idea of a Hybrid especially if I do start driving to work.
  • Will fuel stored in a metal cannister for two years still be okay to use? 5 Dec 2018 (Ask HJ)
I keep 10 litres of unleaded petrol in an approved metal cannister in my car boot for emergency use. As I keep my tank topped up, the contents of the can...

  • Any - Identifying engine noises. 22 Nov 2017 (Forum)
Often difficult to diagnose, and even harder to convey to someone who hasn't heard the noise for themselves.  For example, I have a new clutch in my Powershift B Max. Its meant to overcome the notorious problems with this transmission, and as a result I'm ultra sensitive to any new sound.  Queueing at the local tip last weekend I suddenly heard a noise like combination of "low flying aircraft, whizzer cutting metal and Bluto's sewing machine".
  • Does the Subaru XV use lots of oil? 20 Oct 2016 (Ask HJ)

  • MINI Cooper D 2007 - Clutch repair linked to oil problem? 11 Oct 2016 (Forum)
I should point out that it went off again but when it was on there was a "tapping" noise in the engine. There was more oil in than the max but not too much which they drained off. Whilst doing this they noticed that the air box was loose and the hosing wasn't connected so they had it overnight to fix. They reconnected this but on starting the engine today then red oil light has come on again, but again gone off.
  • Continental ContiMobility Compressor - good! 2 May 2016 (Forum)
My Machine Mart 12v compressor packed up before it had inflated the first tyre, the plastic piston seems to overheat and sieze. Anyway, I had a brain wave - the wife's C-max had one of those useless puncture repair kits which I replaced in favour of a space saver. I found the kit in the garage and the compressor which came with it - a Continental ContiMobility - and it turns out it's actually pretty good.
  • Hyundai i10 1.2 Premium (2 months in... 27 Feb 2016 (Forum)
I can't really tell you anything about (accurate) fuel economy as I've never been that obsessed about that aspect. I'm clearly not doing journeys long enough to get any real idea. Max journey mileage in any one direction so far has only been 28. It really is a pleasure to drive, so much so that I only now ever use the A3 at weekends or if I'm doing 100-miles somewhere midweek in one hit.
  • Which car to go for? 8 Jul 2015 (Forum)
    - automatic - prefer petrol but open to diesel - 6-8k miles per year - main qualities: comfort, safety, style - max age for used: two years We have so far considered Qashqai (£22k for 1.2 petrol new but unsure of resale value and second hand models scarce); Mazda CX-5 (looks good but costly new); CR-V (lots of kit for the price but costly new and poor reviews); RR Evoque (love the looks but costly even used and not a lot of kit for money); and Kia Sportage (looks good but not the best comfort levels or drive quality).
  • Buying a SUV auto - Nissan or Jeep? 28 Apr 2015 (Ask HJ)

  • Fist panda 2007 petrol dynamic - Too much oil engine damage 13 Jan 2015 (Forum)
I'm not the first I know but I put too much oil in my car last week, about 1.5 cm above the max mark. I asked a mechanic friend who said no problem so I drove it 100 miles home. However now having read up a little I'm concerned I may have ruined it. It drove home fine. I spent most of the next day trying to symphony some off but what ever I tried failed and I couldn't remove the oil.
  • Luton meet and greet valet parking crashed my car 11 Sep 2014 (Forum)
They've drawn my attention to their (very long list) of t's &c's which state that they will only pay £100 max towards any accidents that they cause. Looks like my damage will cost aporox £1,500. Surely they must have insurance in place to pay for such an accident? What if they'd wriiten my car off, surely they need to cover damage costs.
