  • any - good garage guide 17 Feb 2019 (Forum)
does anyone take care of this guide, ie if a garage closes and another takes over is anyone meant to update it. as a company called PTA used to run a small tyre place in Orpington which I noticed closed down late last year, reason unknown apart from a rumour, Bens Tyres has since opened in its place, but have noticed the guide still says PTA so obviously its not been updated I used to use PTA a lot for new tyres and often to replace discs and pads as their prices were probably the best, as were there mechanics whom I was actually sorry to see move to other companies  I don`t use the new people as I have had no need to, but from what I've seen they need to establish themselves but if they are as good as the old PTA mechanics they will do well...

  • Recommend a good garage in Sheffield 28 Sep 2010 (Forum)
My elderly jalopy is coming up for its MOT, and needs a service. Can anyone recommend a good experienced independent in or around Sheffield? I'm a bit wary of relying on The Good Garage guide et al, as I've seen some positive feedback for outfits that I wouldn't personally rate. Thanks

  • Mondewoe noises 16 May 2003 (Forum)
Had the NS wheel bearing done about 1500 miles ago and how the OS has had to be done, it was making very similar noises. Trouble is the noise is still there, the garage (Marsh Gargage in the Good Garages Guide) said that the bearing was on its way but was better than the other one. They now think that its possibly drive shaft related. Has anyone any experience of problems with the drive shafts on the V6 Mondewoe, such that it will make noises like a wheel bearing?

  • Ford Focus 1.8 TDDi zetec 2001 Query 17 May 2005 (Forum)
My son has looked around and finally decided he would like a Ford Focus 1.8 TDDi Zetec 2001 51 reg with 67k miles.Silver, FSH, sun roof, CD player (multi) but no air con. The car is in good condition apart from a knocking sound under the rear when test driven. The guy who owns the garage that is selling it says that will be sorted. He has a very good reputation locally, is quite elderly and one of 'the old school'which is very pleasant!

  • Garage Dispute 6 Oct 2006 (Forum)
However, on collection, the handbooks had all been misplaced by the garage. After much chasing around on my part, I finally got replacement handbooks. It was clear the car does not have a full service history (confirmed by VW UK). I have asked the garage for the overdue service to be completed at their cost and financial redress for the depreciation in my car given that it lacks a service history.
  • Should i buy a used Jeep Grand Cherokee? 18 May 2006 (Forum)
I currently have a 1996 Renualt Laguna 1.8RT probably only worth £350 - £650 The Jeep is in excellent condition, nothing wrong with it and well looked after. Parkers internet guide seems to indicate £3000 under book in good condition. it has 26mpg ave and its impracticality, cost of parts and that it might not get under my garage door and having to park it round the back rather than on the road.
  • Audi Gearbox update 1 Nov 2001 (Forum)
As I almost lost five times this amount, I'm philosophical about it. The story has a happy ending - I got a good second-hand unit from a crashed car (from All Audi in HJ's good garage guide, highly recommended). Smooth as silk, £250. For anyone who ever finds themselves in a similar situation, I would say only trust a rebuilder with a VERY good reputation.
  • any - used car problems 28 Nov 2010 (Forum)

  • VW Polo 1.4 S75 (55 plate, 2006 registration) - Front shockers and console bushes 20 Aug 2012 (Forum)
      2) Does anyone know roughly how much I'd have to spend on a) and b)?  3) My brother suggested I take it to a suspension specialist and I checked the good garages guide but couldn't find anything close by in East London. He suggested HiQ (East Ham or Hainult) although couldn't find any reviews on them? Anyone have any experience with them? My experience generally with chains have been quite poor.
  • BMW 1 Series - Faulty car - engine light issue 4 Mar 2023 (Forum)
So this is the only thing that needs to be done by the BMW. The rest of it is all checked, everything is good to go. It's not going to stop anywhere. This is only the sensor need to replace that's it because some people don't tell honestly the things to the obviously the buyer." Finally, the car engine timing chain guide broken on 27th day of purchase after 300 miles.
