Citroen C5 Brake Squeal and more... 17 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I have had a very bad experience with a Citroen C5 I bought from new: * Rear Brakes squeal admitted by Citroen but refuse to deal with it, as ?it does not affect braking performance?. Ask my neighbours, check my eardrums! * Incompatible roof rack equipment supplied. * Poor recording of service details that potentially affect guarantee. -
Passat rear brake light 20 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Hi Just after some advice as to how to get at the rear brake light cluster on my 2001 Passat as the brake light bulb has gone. The lift out panel comes away easily enough to view the cluster from behind. Once this is done I can see that all the bulbs seem to sit on one board which has 2 release clips. -
Honda-wobbly brake calliper 23 Oct 2004 (Forum)
The rear n/s brake calliper can move up and down by about 3mm or so. It rummbles quite a lot over poor road surfaces.Ie. practically all B class roads in this country! It is a single piston type. The play seems to be where the two sliding pins enter their respective sockets on the caliper bracket. -
Peugeot 106 Brake Adjuster Cams Worn Out 31 Mar 2004 (Forum)
In any case, the 'teeth' on the opposing cam, which you don't get with new shoes, has also started to wear. I guess this is what can happen if you buy cheap pattern shoes - braking efficiency is fine but the adjuster cams must be soft metal. Howard -
Ford Focus brakes 16 Mar 2001 (Forum)
My Focus has brakes which creak badly when the car stops on a hill and then is inched slowly down the hill with light pressure on the brake pedal. This happens frequently since I travel down a busy steep hill which has traffic control part way down it most days. -

BMW 120D XDrive 2013 - Both rear brakes sticking? 5 Oct 2021 (Forum)
I've noticed a few times when setting off that it feels like the hill assist was holding for too long, but I'm starting to question now if this was possibly the brakes sticking. No harsh braking leading up to them sticking tonight, did notice that it didn't have the same pull as usual, but didn't think too much of it until the juddering started. Not even been under this car yet, so don't have a clue what I'm looking for on this. -
Vauxhall Corsa E 5DR 2016 - Right front brake making grinding noise. 31 Mar 2021 (Forum)
I had gone to the mechanic as I had a nail in my tyre the same day and they had inspected the area where the noise was coming from and said my brake pads are fine by the looks of it. They had suggested it is something behind the brake pad which they said you can't see without lifting the car. They had suggested to come back tomorrow to change it as they could not lift the car to check as they were busy. -
Mitsubishi L200 - Brake failure 10 Jan 2018 (Forum)
Just had an Interesting time in the works owned L200 pickup, Does get used on construction site tracks so quite a rough life. bought new by the company and now just over a year old with 12000 miles. coming up to a security gate down a hill at around 20 mph (site limit) tried to brake and foot goes to the floor. - pump the brakes and there was no resistance - pulled hard on the handbrake which comes straight up with a bang from the rear of the car. eventually comes to a stop just before the gate. large fluid leak at a rear wheel. - AA contacted who diagnosed a failed wheel cylinder - handbrake cable still attached to drum. -
SEAT Ibiza ST - Service actions - advice/opinions 21 Jul 2017 (Forum)
I was hoping to get some advise on reading between the lines on what to action and what can wait: 1. Front brake pads 85-90% worn, discs lipped. 2. Rear brake pads 80-85% worn 3. Wishbone brushes cracking - was advised not to be worried about this as its not causing any issues. 4. Brake fluid needs replacing - advised to get this done when get brakes done. -
Ford Focus 1.6 2007 - Rear brake drum binding 21 Sep 2016 (Forum)
Coincidentally (or maybe not) I'd booked the car into a local garage next week to have the handbrake cable adjusted because it only holds the car satisfactorily on a steep hill on the final notch, but this evening after a journey of about 3 miles I got out of the car and noticed the tell tale smell of burning brake linings. One drum was cool but the other was red hot, and so was the alloy. I took the relevant drum off and gave everything a good blast with brake cleaner, but as soon as I put it all back together, applied the handbrake and then released it, it was obvious that the solution was nothing so simple because the brakes stubbornly refused to release. -
Peugeot 106 1.4 XR - 1997 - Front RHS brake binding - help required! 4 Jan 2015 (Forum)
I recently changed the driveshafts on my R-reg 106, and found upon driving the car for the first time that the front right brake was binding heavily, with the inner (acting) pad pressed against the disc. The old driveshafts were knackered and had lost their 'spring', so I think the new ones are acting on the hub a bit more. The car hasn't been used much recently, although before the driveshafts were changed there was no sign of a problem from the brakes. -
Hyundai i30 Diesel Auto - MOT & Service querry 23 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Today 22/4/14 my son who is driving the car ,is about 120 miles away from home and her heard a scraping noise from the rear of the car, he has taken it to a garage and they have said that the rear brakes are down to the metal and they are being replaced. I have contacted the MOT garage, they say they have to do a visual check on the rear brakes and have to estimate the wear, and they cannot see both sides of the brake pads.
