  KIA Launches LPG Hybrid 25 Mar 2009 (News)
  Kia plans to introduce a mid-sized, full hybrid vehicle in 2011 and follow up with early commercialisation of a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle in 2012. The Forte LPI hybrid car runs on both Liquefied Petroleum Gas - a popular fuel in Korea - and electricity. It employs a hybrid system which supports the internal combustion engine during motor starts and acceleration.

  Fuel cost savings wiped out 19 Apr 2001 (News)
  Higher insurance costs, and resale values undermined by a depressed used-car market, have wiped out running cost savings from a five-pence-a-litre drop in fuel prices over the past year. AA Motoring Costs 2001, available free of charge on the AA's website www.theaa.com at the end of April, shows that, for the first time in at least five years, motorists doing around 5000 miles a year will see their motoring costs dip while higher mileage drivers are worse off.

  Millers Announces an Ethanol Protecting Additive for Older Petrol Engines 1 May 2014 (News)
  Many owners of older cars are worried that increasing ethanol content in petrol will have corrosive effects on their engine fuel delivery systems and valve seats. Millers Oils has developed a lead-replacement additive called VSPe Power Plus that prevents valve seat recession, fuel system corrosion and detonation while also providing an octane boost improving the performance of older engines  while protecting components from wear and tear.

  Hyundai innovation could help motorists save money on fuel 24 Dec 2008 (News)
  The manufacturer has announced it has produced a six-speed automatic transaxle which is capable of improving fuel economy by more than 12.2 per cent. It stated the technology is so complex and advanced it has applied for around 300 patents to protect the innovation. Project manager at Hyundai Hong-Min Kim said: "The strength of our design is its completely unique layout, which makes it smaller, more compact and lighter than any other six-speed on the market today.

  People looking for car buying advice may be interested to hear simply buying a fuel-efficient vehicle may not save motorists that much money if they do not change the way they drive, according to Clean Green Cars. Using the Mini Clubman as an example, the company said it had tested the car and found when the motorist did not pay attention to their driving style, fuel consumption fell short of the advertised rate for the model by some 25 per cent.

  Running a car with tyres underinflated by 7PSI decreases fuel efficiency by about one mile per gallon. If average fuel consumption is assumed to be 45 miles per gallon on correctly inflated tyres, and average distance driven is 7,500 miles a year, motorists on 7PSI underinflated tyres are using on average 17.2 litres of fuel a year unnecessarily.

  Values of larger, less fuel efficient cars continue to fall at above-average rates as growing numbers of UK motorists shift into smaller vehicles in an effort to lower their running costs. According to Glass’s Guide, cars perceived to be less fuel efficient and potentially the subject of much higher rates of road tax, such as large executive cars and larger 4x4s, have dropped by as much as eight per cent in a single month this summer.

  Rising global oil prices have been blamed for the price hike, with the cost of a barrel of oil increasing by 25 per cent in April. Supermarket prices rose by 3p-per-litre for both fuels, with petrol rising from 102.6p to 105.8p and diesel from 102.5p to 105.7p. RAC fuel spokesman Simon Williams said:“It’s worth remembering that while prices have gone up in both March and April motorists are still paying 7p-per-litre less for petrol and 11p-per-litre less for diesel than they were at this time a year ago.

  Morgan to debut zero-emission sports car 6 Mar 2008 (News)
  According to its makers, the LifeCar hybrid features a "whole-system" design that is more than an adaptation of a traditional vehicle. Its architecture is the result of using "characteristics of the fuel cell in a light-weight vehicle coupled with a high hybridisation level", Morgan said. The manufacturer worked with QinetiQ, Oscar Automotive, Linde AG and the universities of Oxford and Cranfield to create the fuel-efficient car.
