Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 1999 1.8 TD Car shakes when I apply the brakes 21 Feb 2008 (Forum)
All, I have a Ford Mondeo diesel, 1.8. It now shakes quite a lot when I apply the brakes and if the car is travelling at about 40-60mph, especially the steering wheel there the shaking is most prominent. Below this (say at 20mph), there is no shaking when I brake. Does anyone know what is causing this? -
Complete Brake Failure - Volvo 240SE 23 Oct 2006 (Forum)
As you can imaging I received a phone call form a very shaken wife. Fluid level ok just no brakes. With the engine off there is some resistance but with the servo it's the floor. Although these cars have dual circuit bakes this complete failure is rare. It appears the Master Cylinder has flipped both seals. -
Mercedes E320CDI Brake Pump Noise 14 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Hi Room I have a 6 month old MB E320CDI and the hydraulic pump that operates the braking system seems rather noisy. After 3 pumps on the brake the pump starts up for about 3 seconds then shuts off. When the engine is running its not so intrusive however it often starts first thing in the morning when I put the key in the ignition (priming itself I guess!) -
Bleeding brakes - \'94 Passat 1.8 petrol 26 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I\'ve just replaced the brake fluid on my car using a Gunsons easibleed kit. The difficulty I had was getting the fluid to flow at a reasonable rate from the rear brakes. Afterwards I thought it might be something to do with the compensating valve. -

Jerky brakes 18 May 2003 (Forum)
No matter how gently I come to a stop, my X-reg. CVT Punto always ends with a jerk. The supplier can't find anything wrong. Suggestions welcomed! -
Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 16-11-2019 Part 2 17 Nov 2019 (Forum)
The pads need to come out (highly likely the dealer only squirted brake cleaner at them) and be inspected, upon which there will probably be a shiny section or two to show where this high frequency rubbing is taking place, the answer is a proper clean up followed by the application of the correct brake grease on those parts. -
Toyota Auris - Part Exchange Vehicle - False MOT and Service 27 Aug 2014 (Forum)
The car has only done 300 miles since the MOT/Service and a noise is now coming from the brakes, the brake discs are badly worn out and also the brake pads. I checked back on the vehicle's MOT history (online) and I was alarmed to find out that worn brake disks had been reported on advisories since 2012, the latest MOT had no advisories. -
VW PASSAT 2.0TFSI - 2006/56 - Passat Parking brake fault 27 Sep 2011 (Forum)
It only happens when the engine is warmed up and stops when i press the brake, but it also happens when i turn right. Mostly its happening in traffic and i won't hear it over 30mph but the noise is getting embarrasing. Ok, thats that - now, today on the way to work luckily only 5 mins away i had 2 warning lamps appear, one was the "P" to state a parking brake fault and the other is the ESP. -
Ford Galaxy - Brakes fault finding master cylinder calipers 4 Aug 2011 (Forum)
In recent weeks, when braking the brake pedal gave very slightly. I assumed this was the master cylinder, as I had been advised to change it some months back, by an RAC mechanic that checked the fluid and found it in extremely poor condition. -
Citroen - 98 1.9D LX- braking issues 17 Jan 2009 (Forum)
It was now coming up 8 clicks. Anyway- I changed the pads and discs with no dramas but when I checked the brakes they took quite a few pumps to build up pressure. Once pressure was built up the pedal still seemed to be creeping to the floor and if left for a minute pressure dropped again. We went through the process of bleeding the front brakes- No air, no change. -
Golf Mk 4 Rear brake binding 17 May 2004 (Forum)
Have done approx 78,000m from new in 2001MY 115PS TDI PD. My driving style is very light on brake use, plus main jouney is m/way. Original pads and discs stll have plenty of meat left. Rear brake squeal occasionally evident over approx last 30,000m. Today I had the OSR tyre renewed... The operator managed to damage the alloy wheel by incorrectly loacting it on the tyre removing machine - wheel now has deep gouges across two of the spokes. -
Renault Scenic '05 - rear brake squeal 29 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Well, I've had the replacement car a good four months now (19,000 miles done), and yet again, I'm at the hands of the wonderfully competant Renault support staff. Around 16,000 miles, the rear brakes started to squeal under moderate braking. This was most noticeable when braking up to a roundabout under normal conditions; the squeal started at around 30-40mph, and continued until you stopped. -
Mondeo H/Brake Adjustment 16 Jul 2002 (Forum)
Anyone know where the adjuster for the handbrake is on a R-plate 2.0 16v hatchback is? I expect it's under the exhaust heat shields. Thanks -
Chevrolet Cruze 1.6s saloon 2011 comments - MOT 9 May 2014 (Forum)
Service carried out a few weeks before MOT and front and rear pads changed at Kwikfit, Brake service was properly carried out, so no issues with parking brake. As with Astras (same parking brake mechanism) some issues can be found with that point. As I have stopped driving for the moment (living in walking distance of shops and work for youngrovergirl) have decided not to change car and therefore not give 20% to chancellor. -
Ford Mondeo - Severe brake vibration 24 Oct 2011 (Forum)
As soon as I fitted the new discs/pads it was an immediate improvement, back to 'normal' brakes again. However, they have slowly started to creep back to the juddering again, after 2000 miles or so. This time, I've noticed that it's worst at higher speeds (motorway speeds) and it's definitely worse when applying a bit of turn whilst braking. -
My Almera brakes are worn out already 2 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I can understand brake pads at that age, but disks too? The service manager tells me that's not a bad mileage, which is where I start to get suspicious. What do others think should be expected life of brake discs? I know that automatic cars are harder on brakes than manuals, but even I so I always try to drive gently, slowing gradually rather than braking shaply, and generally anticipating the road. -
2015 Nissan Qashqai 1.2 DIG-T - Safety Issue - Rear Disc Brakes 12 Oct 2017 (Forum)
The second annual service has just been completed (06.10.2017) with the mileage now at 13970. The local Nissan dealer has informed us that the vehicle requires new rear brake discs and pads. The dealer has said the vehicle is not safe to use, the brake pads are completely worn away, and the discs heavily scored. We are therefore left with no option but to leave the car at the dealership.
