  I've recently bought (from a dealer) a 53 plate Focus Tdci estate but find the brakes fairly soft and not all that sharp/efficient. Previous car was a 306hdi and the brakes on this were lovely and solid and were really good. The Focus brakes just seem to be a bit poor really in comparison.

  Hi, I have a problem with the brakes on my car. It?s a Rover 25 (2001) {added to subject header in an attempt to catch the eye of any Rover experts out there - DD} . Occasionally, perhaps once every ten times, when I apply pressure to the brake pedal I hear a grinding noise, and the brake pedal vibrates slightly.

  After my car has been sitting overnight or at work all day, something weird happens to the brakes. It's an auto, so whenever I start it up I have to hit the brakes to switch the brake light off. The next time I hit the brakes everything is OK, but on the third occasion, my foot hits the floor and it takes twice as long to stop.

  All three brake bulbs on my 207CC are not working. Can't find the switch or fuse for that matter.

  My Astra 1.8 sxi which has disc brakes all round has a terrible brake squeal which is more pronounced at slow speeds and light braking. I can physically see the pads through the alloy wheels and there appears to be plenty of wear left on each pad.

  When its been standing overnight or for several hours during the day my 4 month old A4 Tdi will flash the re brake warning (accompanied by 3 loud beeps) when started. The brake fluid level is fine and the brake fluid level sensor has been replaced to no effect. Theres no warning if the car has been driven recently, it only seems to be from cold.

  I have a 1994 punto and it seems to have a problem with the brakes. When driving along normally, virtually all the time there is a squeal coming from the brakes. This ceases when the brakes are applied. I have been told by my local mechanic that the discs are worn out.

  Have just discovered that the brake lights on my 1998 Passat are always on when the headlights/rear lights are on. The high level light is also on. When I press the brake pedal there is a slight increase in intensity but not really enough to show that I am braking (or so said my wife who drove behind me last night).

  Dear all, My ladyfriend has an lovely Mk2 MR2 (one of the earlies '89 with the corolla engine and no spoiler - looks less like a trainer methinks) which pulls very noticeably to the right when braking, but ONLY when also steering right. It steers perfectly straight with no braking and this only occurs when braking AND steering to the right as tests involving braking with hands-off-wheel show no change of direction.

  Took delivery of a 5000 mile Passat TDI Sport a week or so ago, first registered in September 2001, and am now wondering if there's a problem with the brakes. Difficult to describe, but here goes! When braking, say, to come to a stop, a 'pulsing' can be felt through the brake pedal and throughout the car. It's like a very 'watered down' version of the ABS working but all I'm doing is normal braking; it does it whether stopping from speed or just going around town.

  When I drive at higher speeds, such as 40-50mph then use my brakes, I will then proceed to hear a squealing noise coming from the passenger side, most likely from the brakes, but only when the car is in motion, not during braking. The noise then goes after I turn the car off/ park for a few minutes.

  Basically driving back from a long trip got to a set of traffic lights started to try to depress brake pedal. Extremely stiff. Never went down hardly at all. Hard to brake with my heal. Works if I press extremely hard with my heal. I checked the brake fluid level and it is full... any ideas anyone ?

  Both my rear brake lights do not work when the brake pedal is pressed but the rear high level brake light works ok. I have checked all the fuses and they are ok. I have been told it could be the turn signal switch that is faulty as it is wired through that switch.

  h i can any one help i have a toyoya avensis 2003 d4d problem is with braking brake peddle goes rock hard when decendingsteep hilly roads ok on flat roads orgoing down less steeper hills i,ve had the brake vacume pump replaced made no differance the pads are ok new discs also anyone out there any advice

  Hi,   I've just had an MOT on my S reg Ford Focus Ghia 2.0 and it failed because of the rear brake discs and brake pads are badly corroded. They have quoted £260 to replace them.   My question: Is this a reasonable price for replacing the rear brake discs and pads?   Thanks   Chris

  Stopped at lights on Sutton bypass/M6 Toll this morning, LHD Jaguar XF on trade plates pulls up beside me followed by a Jaguar coupe also on trade plates (not unusual around here - aabout 2 miles from the factory) It had a blue assembly in place of the front brake disk about 10" in diameter and did not appear to have a brake disk at all. Is this what ceramic brakes look like?

  When I used to exchange a car's brake fluid using a workshop manual there was always a correct order in which to bleed each of the brakes. I want to replace the brake fluid on a New Fiat Panda but don't have this information. Is it still normal practice to follow a particular order and, if so, does anyone know what it is for the Panda?

  After swapping the brake servo on the weekend I discovered that my brake lights are now not functioning. Does anyone know where the sensor is on this car. I hope to be able to reconnect it before driving it home. I have a haynes at home but hope to reconnect before driving home with no brake lights.

  Hi All, Coming home this eve and attempting to turn into estate I suddenly found that I had no or almost no brakes. The pedal is rock hard. Will brake slightly when forced. Does this mean the servo is gone? or could it be the master cylinder. The car is a 01 xsara HDI 105k miles brakes normally brilliant. How hard a job would it be to fix?

  I have noticed for a while now that when I set off for work in the morning, everytime I press the brakes I hear a grinding / scraping noise from the rear brakes. However after braking a few times the noise disappears and will not return until the next morning. Any ideas what could be causing this?
