Matiz - Odd steering after wheel change 5 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Just changed the front-offside wheel on my wife's 1998 Daewoo Matiz (refitting repaired tyre) after having the steel spare on it for a fortnight. Subsequently I've have found that the steering wheel is off-centre when driving straight and doesn't quite feel "right" to me in it's movement, in terms of the resistance you feel when applying lock. Any suggestions as to what might be the cause? Thanks in advance. ---- PhiL -
Seat Ibiza FR 12 Apr 2007 (Forum)
As part of a belt-tightening drive, I am having a Seat Ibiza FR TDi on my company scheme for 6 months, so that I can have something stupid next time. Anyone got good/bad/indifferent stories of them? I will be sorry to see my A3 go, although I will not miss the hideous vile experience that is reverse in a DSG gearbox. -
Rumble from Mondeo Steering 11 Apr 2007 (Forum)
It's a 1994 V6 Auto with 96k on the clock and it's whisper quiet under 30, but from around 35 to 60 when driving in a straight line it makes an annoying rumbling noise. Around left hand bends it goes back to being silky smooth. Above 70ish the noise seems a lot quieter too. There's no knocking in the steering at full lock. -
play in steering rack - mot. Peugeot 306 4 Apr 2007 (Forum)
This is felt if pulling the wheel towards me (away from the car) but there is no play at 10 o'clock and 4 o'clock if that makes sence I was wondering if play there would be an mot fail as it still drives fine apart from the odd clunk over certain bumps. There steering also feels good and strong -
2CV rag top - this year's toy 1 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Not looking for a project although I don't mind maintenance, but I want something I can just get in and drive. I've always fancied one, a recent topic reminded me of one, and at least I won't have to worry about BBD nicking it to sell drugs from like he does with the Merc. 8< Snip - some non motoring comments removed - DD -
Maybe there's hope. 19 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Driving up the M23 this morning I noticed the matrix sign before the M25 junction had displayed "Keep left unless overtaking". Finally some useful reminders to all the MLOC members! Unfortunately it was just before the motorway splits off into slip-roads for different directions, so keeping left may have sent you in the wrong direction. -
80 grand merc' gone...how? 14 Mar 2007 (Forum)
OK, a chauffeur leaves the £80k Merc S class with all the kit and caboodle on his drive overnight, ready for an early start next day. In the morning, the car has gone. Has sophisticated anti theft alarm, coded keys, whatever. No one heard a thing. Tracker shows zero, nothing, zilch, da nada! -
Replacement front seats for a VW Polo 14 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I own a 1999 VW Polo TDI estate. The front seats are fine for a couple hours driving but on long journeys I wish they were better. They lack lumbar and thigh support. I recently travelled in a Skoda Fekcia diesel and immediately noticed the seats were far more comfortable. I now want to replace the seats in my car - but which ones are best? -
Best way to insure a new driver 13 Mar 2007 (Forum)
My 18 year old son has just passed his test (yesterday) and is desperate to start driving an elderly Citroen AX valued at about £350. I am of the opinion that he should insure it himself and he has had a best quote of about £1600. What I don't want to do is have him as a named driver on my policy and risk my NCB What have other backroomers done? -
Peugeot 306 D Turbo Wobble 12 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Hi Ive got a wobble coming up through the enitre car and the steering wheel when I accelerate. It feels worse when the car is under increased load than normal flat driving. There are no banging noises or other obvious noises to speak of. I have been told by a bloke in the pub that it's my driveshafts. Can someone back this theory up or possibly give me some more solid advice? -
Primera Startup Squeal 12 Mar 2007 (Forum)
It's been doing this for about 2 weeks now, and hasn't got better or worse. A/C on or off, same squeal. Clutch pedal in or out, same squeal. Does it sound like the drive belt slipping? And if so, is it a fairly simple diy job? Thanks in advance Steve -
Focus Juddering 27 Feb 2007 (Forum)
If the gas pedal is depressed gently at low revs in these higher gears than the judder is barely noticeable although acceleration is not as smooth as it could be. This has never happened before but started occuring recently after a particularly "vigourous" drive. What could this be??? Many thanks! Stu -
Snow in up state New York 11 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I visited Niagra many years ago during February but avoided this sort of problems. Being driven around seeing the results of an ice storm made me thankful I was not driving. However I was able to walk on the ice, on the river, near the base of the falls. I bet HSE does not permit that these days. -
02 VW Golf problem 4 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Can anybody help me with this? My MK4 Golf seems to have a problem in that it cuts out when first driving or when changing down gears (this especially happens when changing to 2nd). I noticed that the rev counter will move very quickly and the head lights will dim while this happens. I spoken to some friends who think it maybe transmission problem. -

Dim-dip - where's it gone? 16 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Why has the dim-dip headlamp system fitted to cars post 1986 been abolished so that there are an increasing amount of fools driving around with parking/sidelights on? They do not seem aware that other motorists will see the outline of the car more quickly than the lights in poor weather. 2. Any other Audi drivers find that their headlights are poor on dipped beam? -
Mondeo Mk3 'Thudding' on tickover 16 Dec 2006 (Forum)
My Mondeo has always done this a little bit if you drive half a mile and then stop at some lights the tickover pulses and a kind of thudding sound comes from the exhaust recycling system. However, over the past couple of months it has started doing this when the engine is warm and I am in a traffic block. -
New cat's eyes 7 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Driving yesterday in the pitch black and noticed I could see Cat's eyes in my rear view mirror. Then slowed down turned my lights off and saw the cat's eyes were lit (there was no other light available to cause a reflection). -
Best route Tunbridge Wells - Leeds 30 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Barchettaman is making a rare foray back to the mother country, and I´m not sure of the best way to do this route - any advice would be very gratefully received. I´ll be driving up mid-morning on a Monday (Dec 11) and was thinking M25-M11-A1(M) would be my best bet. Are those nasty roadworks round Stansted a thing of the past? Anything else I should avoid? Nasty camera traps? -
"Mr Loophole" - Tiff off Speeding Charge 26 Nov 2006 (Forum)
The bench believed him about the NIP not being received and he was found not guilty. Many months later he could not remember who had been driving at that date & time..
