Primera Startup Squeal

Primera Startup Squeal - Hawesy1982
Hi,

My '97 Nissan Primera GT squeals on startup.

Basically, ignition key turned, engine started up for about one second, then followed by about one second of squealing noise, then all fine.

It's been doing this for about 2 weeks now, and hasn't got better or worse. A/C on or off, same squeal. Clutch pedal in or out, same squeal.

Does it sound like the drive belt slipping? And if so, is it a fairly simple diy job?

Hi Hawesy, Certainly sounds like a drive belt slipping to me, if so, i would not think it would be difficult to change, cheers, graham.

Looked at the alternator belt on my new primera yesterday (new to me,same engine as the old one 2.0 litre bullitproof) and i have to say it baffled even me how to get in to adjust it.
Thankfully mines perfect (at the mo).
I reckon you will need to get down and get under to adjust, but to be honest, i think you really should be looking at a new belt rather than a 3 spanner tighten up job............sorry.

The start up squeel on my Primera was a sign of the poor lubrication to the top end. Remove the cam cover and there are two oil feed pipes with several pin holes that supply oil to the cams. You need to clear these holes.
