Barchettaman is making a rare foray back to the mother country, and I´m not sure of the best way to do this route - any advice would be very gratefully received.
I´ll be driving up mid-morning on a Monday (Dec 11) and was thinking M25-M11-A1(M) would be my best bet.
Are those nasty roadworks round Stansted a thing of the past? Anything else I should avoid? Nasty camera traps?
Thanks all,
Barchettaman

I do Chatham to Leeds Braford area quite often.
M25-M11-A14-A1 is the best although Tom Tom disagrees.
Roadworks at Stansted are gone, watch the bridges on the new bit of the A1M around M62 & also through Peterborough as their are a few sneeky cameras static & mobile. Also loads around the Nottingham bit on a 50 limit bit. I normally do around 3.75-4 hours to Bradford.

loads of cameras between cambridge and huntingdon.
some cameras on the a1. the undullating bit thats a dual c'way.
4 cameras in that village on the a1 with the 50 limit.
leeds has plenty of cameras and unmarked cars.

I always used to prefer going M25, M1 as it was smoother to drive. If you take the M11 and A14 to the M1 rather than the M25, it is 14 miles longer.
The final choice of route will depend on any known holdups on the roads you are going to use, and may mean altering your plans at the last minute. I would suggest listening to Radio 2 (88 to 91 FM) from when you get up and paying attention to their regular traffic reports. Other drivers phone in with holdups they have seen, and might save you a lot of problems.

I read frequently, but only post when I have something useful to say.

So it might be but that bit of M25 from the M11 to the M1 is a pain, the 40 limit specs section on the M1 can be very slow.
Radio, is Invicta to the bottom of the M11, Heart from their to north of Stansted, Q103 through Camb, then Fox for the the next bit. Up near Leeds I think it's Galaxy.

Many thanks everyone for the replies!
Will tune in on route and go probably M11. Fingers crossed there´ll be no holdups. Clinking up the motorway with some nice red wine and a few crates of Pils for Christmas.
Cheers,

I'm driving from North-West London to Leeds tomorrow lunch-time.
Was thinking of M1 all the way unless my sat-nav's TMC or nanyone else suggests otherwise?
