Can you drive an electric van above 3500kg with a normal licence? 21 Aug 2018 (News)
Is a normal driving licence all I need? No, there are some conditions. Category B licence holders are not automatically allowed to drive the vehicles in question. Before they can get behind the wheel of a heavier alternative fuel van, they must first complete a minimum of five hours’ training at the helm of such a vehicle with a registered instructor. -
Mini to be auctioned for charity 31 Oct 2016 (News)
Millie moved to Steyning in the early 1980s, and continued to use the car regularly around the area until she took the decision to stop driving simply because she worried that if she was involved in any form of accident she would automatically be blamed because of her age. Margo was eventually inherited by Mrs Properjohns’ daughter, Joan, when Millie passed away at the fine age of 100 years and six weeks, who stored the car in a garage in 2004. Now returned to her original condition in gleaming Tartan Red, the campaign will reach its climax when Margo tempts bidders at auction when offered without reserve as part of Silverstone Auctions’ catalogue at its Classic Motor Show Sale at the NEC. -
2nd Classic Auction Same Day: H&H Buxton 12th November 2014 10 Nov 2014 (News)
The metallic grey 1984 recently emerged after 16 years in a barn so should be relatively rot free. The 1987E in white has just 59,000 miles and has been converted to automatic transmission that might be a bit easier on the vulnerable rear axle. Each estimated at £4,500-£5,500. Peugeot 205GTIs have been rising rapidly and though this 1991J 1.9 has a sunroof, which makes it less desirable for track days, it’s still a fun drive and is likely to appreciate past its £3,000 - £4,000 estimate. -
EC Control Freaks Trying to Impose ISA on Europe 30 Oct 2013 (News)
Last month, the EU announced that it were considering rules for new cars to be installed with Intelligent Speed Adaptation (ISA) technology. This would be capable of detecting limits through cameras or satellites and automatically applying the brakes. Existing vehicles could be forced to be retrofitted with the devices. But in trials in the UK ISA was proven to be extremely dangerous. Where a 30, 40 or 50mph road crossed a 70mph motorway, drivers on the motorway were finding their cars suddenly braking to the lower limit. -

Autoblog readers condemn dangerous HID headlights 24 Feb 2011 (News)
If they dip left, then they shine directly into the door mirrors of cars being overtaken, blinding the driver of the overtaken car unless he looks away. OEM Xenons have to automatically compensate for the pitch of the car against the road, but they actually do this very slowly, so on an undulating road they can be shining at the road directly in front of the car, at the sky, or into the eyes of an oncoming driver. -

Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 16-5-2015 16 May 2015 (News)
Last chance saloon We currently drive a 2008 SAAB 9-3 1,998cc petrol automatic Vector Sport 4-door saloon and are thinking of replacing this soon, as we are concerned that, given time, spare parts may become difficult to obtain. We like the comfort and the capability of quick acceleration at roundabouts, etc., as well as space for my golf clubs and wish to stay automatic. -
Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 30-5-2015 30 May 2015 (News)
I can understand what you are saying but I drove in the same manner in my previous car a 1999 Honda Accord Type V automatic hatchback, which I had for 13 years, and in a Rover automatic before that, without having a problem. It does appear that the BMW seat is the main cause of my difficulty. When you take up an ideal sitting position in the BMW there is a slight gap between your back and the seat so when you relax into the seat your back takes up a slight convex curve. -
