  Top bid for this virtually new 53 reg giant Tonka Toy was £46,000. Back in the real world, anyone who heeded what I wrote about Top Car auctions on Friday would have been quids in today. A bank was disposing of several Three Series at no reserve. As a result, a really sweet, nicely specced 33k mile 02 reg 320i 2.2 SE Touring sold for £15,500; a 69k mile 2001Y 320d SE sold for £12,550; and a 59k mile 2000W 318i SE Touring with lots of kit on it sold for £9,950.

  Which is £150 more than a 22k mile 2000X 330CI auto sold for just ten cars before in the BMW sale. A 28k mile 02 reg M3 convertible with hardtop, satnav and SMG box bid to £33,000 provisional and a 40k mile 2001/51 M3 straight manual sold for a relatively normal £27,000.

  Classic Sale of the Century in Monaco 5 May 2002 (News)
  Star of the sale has to be a fabulous 1938 Bugatti Type 57C Atalante, chassis no. 57641 with roll-back roof. Two other Bugattis on offer are a very original looking 1927 Type 37 four cylinder car, chassis no. 37246; and a 1951 Type 101 Supercharged with drophead coupe bodywork by Gangloff on chassis no. 101501, documented to have been the show car and factory demonstrator. Aston Martins include a 1937 2.0 litre short chassis (no G8/854/SC); and a well known 1955 DB3S (chassis DB3S/103).

  Fleet and lease vendors have averaged an extra £369 per car sold this year. The most obvious reason given is a comparative shortage of cars to match a similar level of demand. That said, prices today seemed down about 3% compared to last Friday, reflecting the cost to dealers of stocking cars over Christmas.

  Jaguar XK120 racer to headline Coys auction 16 Aug 2017 (News)
  A 1950 Jaguar XK120 alloy competition roadster is set to headline Coys next auction. The car, which is expected to fetch up to £250,000, will go under the hammer on 7 September. The Jaguar, nicknamed ‘Piggy’, will go under the hammer at Coys Thoroughbred And Vintage sale, which is held in the heart of the Sussex Downs, just a few miles up the road from the Goodwood Revival.

  Historic specialist Fiskens promises special display at Retromobile 2016 25 Nov 2015 (News)
  The company’s presence at Retromobile has ramped up in recent years to become the biggest dealer display at the event, showcasing some of the best historic automobiles available to the market. For 2016, Fiskens will unveil 14 cars on the opening day of the show. Last year, Fiskens sold a 1958 Ferrari 250GT California Spyder, a 1954 Pegaso Z102 Competition Coupé and a Bentley R Type Continental, all directly from the show stand.

  The all-new Toyota Prius has made its first appearance at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show . The next-generation car runs on a new platform, which makes for a more practical and spacious cabin. Prices should start at around £25,000. Despite running on a new platform, the 1.8-litre hybrid system is carried over from the outgoing Prius, albeit revised to improve economy.
