  • Plenty of p/x Bargains at Auction 13 Mar 2002 (News)
A single pre-price alignment 11,000 mile 98S Berlingo Multispace 1.8 3-door with the huge electric roof sold for £3,700. But Micra automatics were in the money with a 12,000 mile 99S 1.3GX 5-door selling for all of £4,900. While a P reg Vitara soft-top in Pudendum Pink was bought by a bottle blonde's bloke for a silly £3,500, but we don't write the book on that basis.
  • Auction Prices Begin to Rise 30 Nov 2001 (News)
This 17,000 mile eight month old Y reg car started at £19,000 and bid to £20,200 which was deemed not enough even though the new price is only £22,960. A pair of 3.0 V6 S-Type Jags bid to £18,600 for the 2000W automatic with 33,000 miles and £15,300 for the 2000W manual with 22,000 miles and a very badly repainted front nearside wing and valence. It would have been worth the vendor's while to spend money on a proper repair instead of a bodge.
  • Not so Cheap at Auction Today 16 Nov 2001 (News)
And someone paid all of £13,050 for it. A heavily loaded 10,000 mile 2000W Polo GTi made a stiff £8,975. A 138,000 mile Previa automatic 8-seater sold for £6,800. And, though a 150,000 mile 98R BMW 318iS Coupe started sensibly at £5,000, it didn't stop until it made £7,000. Buyers were a bit more realistic about a 68,000 mile 97R MGF VVC and refused to pay more than £7,000 for it.
  • Motability Cars making Megabucks at Car Auction Today 31 Aug 2012 (News)
Four Nissan Qashqais were all serious money. A 16k mile 11 reg Jazz 1.4iVTEC EX made £11,000. A 6k mile 09 Nissan Note Acenta automatic sold for £5,800. Not everything went mad, though. Bargain of the day has to be an 18k mile 09 Chevrolet Lacetti 1.8SX auto estate, sold for a mere £2,350, a perfectly okay, fine riding 38k mile 09 Renault Megane 1.6i Expression sold for £4,250, a 102k mile 2008/58 Mondeo 2.0i Zetec estate drove off for £3,650 and, unless I misheard and misread, a 27k mile 09 Focus CC 2.0 automatic sold for just £5,500.
  • Skoda Greenline II Range of Models Put to the Test 15 Feb 2011 (News)
Similar prices for the specs to the Peugeot 508 1.6 e-HDIs tested last week, though going up to a higher top spec level. Nice, friendly and above all obedient stop-start that, unlike automatics and semi automatics, leaves the engine off when you put the parking brake on and only restarts when you press the clutch. Impressive to drive. Does not feel underpowered. Nicer ride quality on the 205/55 R16s than on bigger wheels with lower profile tyres.

  • Can you drive an electric van above 3500kg with a normal licence? 21 Aug 2018 (News)
Is a normal driving licence all I need? No, there are some conditions. Category B licence holders are not automatically allowed to drive the vehicles in question. Before they can get behind the wheel of a heavier alternative fuel van, they must first complete a minimum of five hours’ training at the helm of such a vehicle with a registered instructor.
  • Mini to be auctioned for charity 31 Oct 2016 (News)
Millie moved to Steyning in the early 1980s, and continued to use the car regularly around the area until she took the decision to stop driving simply because she worried that if she was involved in any form of accident she would automatically be blamed because of her age. Margo was eventually inherited by Mrs Properjohns’ daughter, Joan, when Millie passed away at the fine age of 100 years and six weeks, who stored the car in a garage in 2004.  Now returned to her original condition in gleaming Tartan Red, the campaign will reach its climax when Margo tempts bidders at auction when offered without reserve as part of Silverstone Auctions’ catalogue at its Classic Motor Show Sale at the NEC.
  • 2nd Classic Auction Same Day: H&H Buxton 12th November 2014 10 Nov 2014 (News)
The metallic grey 1984 recently emerged after 16 years in a barn so should be relatively rot free. The 1987E in white has just 59,000 miles and has been converted to automatic transmission that might be a bit easier on the vulnerable rear axle. Each estimated at £4,500-£5,500. Peugeot 205GTIs have been rising rapidly and though this 1991J 1.9 has a sunroof, which makes it less desirable for track days, it’s still a fun drive and is likely to appreciate past its £3,000 - £4,000 estimate.
  • EC Control Freaks Trying to Impose ISA on Europe 30 Oct 2013 (News)
Last month, the EU announced that it were considering rules for new cars to be installed with Intelligent Speed Adaptation (ISA) technology. This would be capable of detecting limits through cameras or satellites and automatically applying the brakes. Existing vehicles could be forced to be retrofitted with the devices. But in trials in the UK ISA was proven to be extremely dangerous. Where a 30, 40 or 50mph road crossed a 70mph motorway, drivers on the motorway were finding their cars suddenly braking to the lower limit.

Interestingly, SEAT has also unveiled a new Ecomotive version of the 1.6-litre TDI that comes in at 87g/km and 85.6mpg combined.
  • Fascinating Entry at Historics Brooklands Auction 22nd October 14 Oct 2011 (News)
1962 Daimler SP250 V8 ‘B’ spec ex Metropolitan Police ‘chase’ car, and used for 13 seasons as the Goodwood Revival course car. Standard police spec automatic transmission. Estimate £30,000 - £35,000. 1956 Lagonda DB 3.0 litre Tickford DHC. And under the bonnet the same twin cam six as found in contemporary Aston Martins. In fantastic, concours winning condition.
  • Autoblog readers condemn dangerous HID headlights 24 Feb 2011 (News)
If they dip left, then they shine directly into the door mirrors of cars being overtaken, blinding the driver of the overtaken car unless he looks away. OEM Xenons have to automatically compensate for the pitch of the car against the road, but they actually do this very slowly, so on an undulating road they can be shining at the road directly in front of the car, at the sky, or into the eyes of an oncoming driver.

  • More Cheap Cars at Auction Today 15 Oct 2004 (News)
