  • what first cars are young people buying these days 24 Jun 2015 (Forum)
So if the kids are not buying these what are they buying? newer cars? different cars to Corsas? Is a 10 yr old car too old for todays young drivers?! Or maybe £1000 for a 54 plate Corsa 1.2 is too much money? any thoughts?
  • car insurance + young persons 11 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Wonder if anyone on this site has advice or knowledge of the following I have an 18 yr old daughter who is learning to drive. would like to purchase a new car, one with a low insurance group such as vw polo or toyota yaris. Not sure whether to insure the car in my name, then include my daughter as a named driver, I have full no claims bonus on my own vehicle which I will be keeping. or to insure the new car in my daughters name only. I assumed that if I did the former it would be cheaper, however I have been told that insuers have cottoned on to the fact that parents insure cars on behalf of their offspring, and that the cost we be similar whichever way I do it. any comments or if anyone knows of a decent insurer for young persons would be much appriciated

  • Indicators and roundabouts 26 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I've noticed an increasing number of drivers that indicate right at all roundabouts, even when going left. This used to be the case when I was young, I'm now 65, but it was modified in the Highway Code years ago. So why the change?

  • Insurance: change car / add young driver 24 Jan 2005 (Forum)
    4. Any other suggestions for getting young driver's costs down? Had a quick look through previous posts but didn't spot anything much, apologies if I missed something! Did also start to have a theoretical conversation with the insurer, but didn't find them that helpful once I stopped asking for insurance on a particular car!

  • The driving test 25 Jan 2012 (Forum)
IAM chief executive Simon Best said: “More than half the cars on our roads are rated as four or the maximum five star in European safety tests, and the figure is even higher for new cars. Our roads are also getting safer in their design*2. “But the roads where drivers, especially young drivers, are most frequently killed and injured are still not consistently part of the driving test. The minister recently announced young drivers would be allowed to use motorways when accompanied by an instructor, but it is single carriageway A-roads where the real problem lies.
  • Young lad speeding in fast car 27 Mar 2007 (Forum)
So I crossed over the road, and had a work with the driver. He was a young lad, about 20-ish, in a new looking Nissan 350Z. Nice car! I told him that I thought his driving was dangerous. He said his foot slipped. I told him that if he couldn't control the car he shouldn't be in it.

  • Tyre Pressures - incorrect advice given 23 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Conversation in flow between young lady customer and young lady cashier as I went in to pay for my diesel: "what do I pump them up to?" "you'll find the tyre pressures marked on the side of the tyre".... I normally ignore these sorts of conversations but intervened and suggested looking in the handbook, and that any pressure marked on the side of the tyre would be the maximum, and would be way too high for her car.

  • Rear fog lights 13 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Not so long ago young drivers considered it "cool" to drive with rear foglights permanently on, day or night. I haven't noticed this lately so has this fashion been superseded by something else? Or have their rear foglight bulbs all burnt out through over-use?
