Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - 07 1.6 noise on cold start 24 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Been present for past 14 months, been to VW dealer car purchased from twice, first said nothing wrong, then when i booked in for 2nd review said it was a loose fuel pump cable hitting of the inside panel which they secured. Service manager came out with me and said the noise was 'normal' but by this time car not cold, (I had driven to garage.) Oil always kept within specified limits and with recommended oil as well. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 01 2.0 TDDI engine oil level increasing 2 Sep 2009 (Forum)
More or less coincident with the second hose problem, the engine oil level has started to increase - now above maximum - and it is believed to be caused by diesel fuel in the oil. Is this a known issue? I can't find it having searched all over the place. I understand the mechanic intends to replace the high pressure pump (which has a cost near the value of the car). -
BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 02 2.0 Car not starting 7 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I don't want to get the car back thinking that everything is alright when in fact there might be an underlying problem. He mentioned the fuel pump or the immobiliser could be at fault. How can you tell if either of these are at fault? Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. -
Toyota Yaris (1999 - 2005) - 99 1.0 P0172 - Mixture too rich 21 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I remoed and cleaned the MAF sensor today as some sites advise this and also cleaned the Lambda sensor as I am told this is responsible for calculating the Air/Fuel mix at emission stage. A few things did make me puzzle. with the engine running, the unplugging of the MAF sensor caused the engine to stop with fault P0110. But when the Lambda sensor was unplugged with the engine running - no fault occurred. -
Should I 'give up' on Company car 12 Jun 2009 (Forum)
The principle is that my employer increases my salary (I am a basic rate tax payer) by the same amount as the current cost to them of the contract hire, fuel, insurance etc, so they are no worse off. I run my own car and can then also claim the mileage against income tax which friends have worked out would be about £9000 a yr. based on my 30,000 buisness miles p.a. -
Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - 02 2.3 Warning light and juddering at low revs 28 Apr 2009 (Forum)
The thing is I took it for a test drive on Sunday and it drove fine - no warning light and no juddering at low revs (which I also noticed happening today). Since the test drive, the dealer has done an MOT and put in half a tank of fuel but I don't think they have done much else to it.. I guess my questions are: Can anyone give me an idea of what might be wrong and might it be something that would mean I should try and walk away (if I can!!) -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 03 1.8TDCi - Fails to start 27 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Used the built in diagnostic and only error code found was for coolant temp low. Have tested the glow plugs and all read arround 1-2 Ohm's, Inspected fuel lines as far as possible and appear in good order. Have always had it serviced at correct intervals and now sits on 112K miles, anybody had a similar problem as any advice would be massivly appreciated as am terrified of taking it to a main dealer as things are a bit tight at the mo. -
Citroen C5 (2001 - 2008) - 02 2.2 HDi diesel starting problems 8 Apr 2009 (Forum)
All seemingly okay. Can anybody give me a steer where I might now look? It appears that it is probably a fuel suply fault whilst the motor is cranking. Once it has started, it runs very nicely indeed. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly welcomed. Cheers, Mike -
Honda Accord UK (1998 - 2003) - 1999 2.0 very poor mpg 31 Mar 2009 (Forum)
I also had the timing belt done (it was due, 98k miles on the clock) It passed the MOT without issue, but im sure the mpg has plummeted. Anyway, is there anything else i can check or change that would affect the fuel economy drastically? Honda dealer said I would have to send it in for a 45 quid check to see what could be wrong. Any quick things i could check/change myself? -
Citroen Xsara (1997 - 2004) - 02 2.0 HDI 110 - Strange cylinder compression read 26 Mar 2009 (Forum)
The car has had one previous owner, fsh, low mileage (now up to 34k from 28k when I bought it 6 months ago) Cylinder compression readings as follows No. 1 25 bar No. 2 28 bar No. 3 25 bar No. 4 28 bar Diesco tested the fuel system right through but stopped short of removing and testing the injectors and testing the spray pattern and flow rates. They have dismissed the notion that I have bore wear or valve problems (SO I HOPE THEY'RE RIGHT!!). -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - Replacement car - suggestions? 23 Mar 2009 (Forum)
I've finally decided to cut my losses and get rid of my terrible Ford Focus 1.8tdci estate. Since I've had it I've had problems with ecu/fuel injection (£1,100 quoted to fix), blocked injectors (£250 to fix), battery problems (£150) and now I've been told that it needs a new flywheel system and possibly a clutch (at least £700). So it's going! -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 2003 2.0 TDCi poor slow running 17 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Hi I have a mondeo 03 plate Since I have had it the injectors have been cleaned/changed, new glow plugs, new air, fuel and oil filter + new oil of correct consistency. Engine has now done 71000 miles. Also had air con and radiator fan on continuously. This was a faulty heater control panel. (pre climate control) I had bad slow running and have cured this by blanking off the EGR valve with a metal sheet. -
Vauxhall Astra H estate (2004 - 2009) - Some advice regarding governing of vehicles 5 Jan 2009 (Forum)
He runs a private hire company with about 50 drivers and 25 cars most are Vauxhall astra 1.7 tdi?s, now with the economic down turn he wants to reduce his costs and one of his biggest costs is fuel (even with the price going down) as he hires his vehicles out to drivers he knows most don?t driver them the way they should i.e. going to 3 ? 5 revs before gear change, is their any effective method (legal) to reduce or limit the revs a vehicle goes to, a few people have told me you can get them governed , restricted etc but I have no idea how to etc, so I would look like a twit telling him to get so and so done if I don? -
Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 1999 3,0 V6 Service Manual & other questions 3 Jan 2009 (Forum)
head lights need to be removed and inspected...Removal of bumper? remember the days when most of us were learning to drive and the phenomenon of kangaroo fuel stepped in, bobbing back and forth of the head etc...this car does that when the speedo fails on low revs and it's driving me nuts... i am looking under the bonnet and finding not much room to swing a match stick let alone a cat... -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 2000 1.4 cutting out problem 5 Dec 2008 (Forum)
If if park overnight with the nose facing downhill (quite a steep hill), when i start it in the mornings, it starts fine but then seconds later sounds like its spluttering (like it's not being supplied with enough fuel). After a couple of seconds it completely cuts out. It will start again straight away with no problem. If i rev the engine after starting it, it wont cut out. Then, as i approach lights etc it will cut out randomly but will be fine whilst moving. -
Renault Clio II (1998 - 2001) - 1998 1.2 Intermittent Starting 27 Nov 2008 (Forum)
As the engine in my car is only 8 valve with a distribuitor-less ignition system i dont know if these parts would cause the same faults. When the engine is running it has plenty of power, no signs of fuels starvation or missfiring. I have also heard of problems with the immobilliser unit, i found this on the car, situated next to the interior light. The immobillisecircuit board did look corroded, however the engine started even when i unplugged the immobliser circuit board, so obviously my immobilliser seems to have no use. -
FIAT Scudo (2007 - ) - 2001 2.0 HDI Diesel Pressure Sensor????? 25 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Scudo van same as Peugeot Expert, 2.0 HDI, The problem is, heavy diesel knock, erratic reving, engine management light on, seems to improve when the engine is worm but still very hesitant and not really driveable, its over fueling as black smoke and strong diesel smell. Put the scanner on it and it comes up with code 190 Diesel Pressure Sensor, If i pull wires of the Rail pressure sensor it goes to limp mode and runs lovely, no diesel knok, no hesitateing level idle. -
Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 2002 2.0 Diesel misfire 21 Oct 2008 (Forum)
The misfire continued and he was baffled so the car went to a diesel specialists. Not peugeot main dealer though. They said it had a faulty fuel rail pressure sensor which was replaced. Car ran fine for the 40 mile motorway journey home but misfire came back as soon as we got into traffic and speed dropped. Car went back to the diesel specialist who said they 'think' it might be the particulate filter. -
Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - 01 2.0 Emissions light & ABS light on 3 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Whats happening here? It looks like someones tinkered with the engine before me, running a variable fuel manifold and theres a pipe from the small motor for cooling exhaust gases running into the air filter? Also the brakes judder when you're at high speed - it runs smoothly and good when idle when you press the brakes at high speed you feel juddering through the steering wheel. -
Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 1995 1.4 PTE SEFI erratic misfire when warm 10 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Recently the car has started to show the symptoms within a few minutes of driving from cold and is becoming dangerous to drive. I don't know whether the erratic running is caused by ignition or fuel problems Can anyone help with any ideas which will be appreciated, otherwise I scrap the vehicle at the end of the month {subject header made less vague by including a brief summary of the question being asked}
