I have just saved this Pug from the scrapman by buying it, i am driving it around and noticing some problems. but generally enjoying the experince of owning this car despite the problems...i like peugeots and want to give this car a break....
i would like to obtain a service manual and service information for a 1999 V6 24v Peugeot 406 exec, leather seats, wood effect trims etc, ac, it has everything....far cry from my bog standard car it replaced...
it has these faults
Stop light in the middle of the speedo/clocks comes on momentarily under various situations.
speedo fails ( due to interface located behing glove box faulty i assume)
ac will need to be recharged..
head lights need to be removed and inspected...Removal of bumper?
remember the days when most of us were learning to drive and the phenomenon of kangaroo fuel stepped in, bobbing back and forth of the head etc...this car does that when the speedo fails on low revs and it's driving me nuts...
i am looking under the bonnet and finding not much room to swing a match stick let alone a cat...
any help kindly appreciated thanks guys....

I'm not sure about the manual, I would ask over on the frenchcarforum.
I would be looking at the following:-
Stop light coming on may be brake fluid/engine coolant low. (does it come on when cornering, braking or accelerating?)
The speedo failing and the kangarooing may have a common factor in the speed sensor on the gearbox failing.
a/c recharge is not expensive but it may be too cold at the moment for it to cut in.
Can't help with the headlamps, I'm afraid.

thanks MJM, for replying, this car is going to be my little project over the next few months....will check over on the frenchcar forum for the manual, would you believe haynes manuals don't cover this engine, also in addition to the other faults i have a faulty clarion 6 changer cd unit faulty, the connector on the unit it self has been corroded so in the process of finding a doner unit so i can repair original one...I am an engineer so this is why i have taken this project on. love working on cars in my down time. no money though...
Also, if i bought a manual for the standard 406, will it cover me for the other issues re: fixtures and fittings of my car, ie the electric seats cd changer alarm (this has been disconnected apparently and i want to reconnect it and diagnose). and any other issues?

My experience is more with Citroen than Peugot, my Haynes manual for the Xantia covers most of the car except the v6 engine (haven't got a v6 but the Xantia was fitted with one) You may find some info on the engine and transmition (automatic) in the Citroen section of the french car forum as well as the Pugeot one. They use the same engine and gearbox. There are some real hands on experts on it.(I'm not one of them!)
The top spec Xantia is also fitted with the Clarion cd changer. There is nothing in the Haynes manual to cover it.
If yours is auto transmition then have a look at any advice on careing for it, apparantly they are very expensive to sort if you have problems.

Try the first link to the Peugeot servicebox.com web site. I found this the other day, its in french but you will get round it. Then go to the next link and use the usernames and password to enter. Thirdly check out the 3rd link for intructions in english. Next week I will be trying out the diagnostics info that cost 4 euros per hour.
Good Luck Bob
