02 2.0 HDI 110 - Strange cylinder compression read - gramar
I've been experiencing a cold start problem for a few months now and this week the car has been into a diesel specialist (Diesco in Ipswich) for diagnosis. The car has had one previous owner, fsh, low mileage (now up to 34k from 28k when I bought it 6 months ago)

Cylinder compression readings as follows

No. 1 25 bar
No. 2 28 bar
No. 3 25 bar
No. 4 28 bar

Diesco tested the fuel system right through but stopped short of removing and testing the injectors and testing the spray pattern and flow rates. They have dismissed the notion that I have bore wear or valve problems (SO I HOPE THEY'RE RIGHT!!). However, that said they don't know what is wrong. The compression difference of 3 bar is 45psi which is significant but unexplainable. I don't know what else they did to the car but the engine is running noticeably stronger today. I'm going to suck it and see. One suggestion was renozzling the injectors - cost approx £90 a go. With no guarantee that will make any difference. Anyone got an idea as to the root cause? and what to try next? greatly appreciated.

I don't suppose you know if they checked the fuel filter for metal particles do you?

That's suspiciously low mileage for a 02 HDi. Have you tried contacting the previous owner in case he had trouble and that's why the mileage is low or the car traded in?

Steve.
