  • Looking for advice on a MPV purchase? 3 Jan 2009 (Forum)
The problems arise due to the fact that we are expecting our 4th child in July (leaving us with the need for room for a folded wheelchair and a pram as we'll have two kids under 2 yrs old) we will be using 6 seats on a regular basis when all children are in the car and need a large boot for wheelchair and pram, not to mention the room needed for luggage, shopping etc. I'm going to look at the Galaxy 1st and work things from there, haven experienced a zafira and a megane grand scenic before the lack of boot space was terrible.
  • Toyota Corolla Verso 29 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I'm looking to change our faithful 10 year old Corolla for a Corolla Verso as I can't get everyone I need to into the back of the Corolla. Have seen one advertised locally and am going to have a look. It is 04/54, VVT-i 1.8 T3 version with 60k on the clock, 1 owner, on at 5,990 GBP.
  • Volkswagen Polo III (1994 - 1999) - 97 1.4 CD Tuner doesn't turn on 22 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I also checked the right most fuse (which is supposed to be the one supports the audio and cigar) in the fuse box in the car and it's fine as well. Could please anyone give me some help on this? Thanks in advance.
  • PCV licence requirements 16 Dec 2008 (Forum)
My employer gave me an old 12-seat minibus to use today as a van. Something niggled, so I checked the DVLA site to see if I was legal. 'If you had entitlement to drive cars prior to 1 January 1997 you can drive a minibus provided you are 21 or over and the minibus has a maximum of 17 seats including the driver's seat and is not being used for hire or reward.
  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - (04-07) 1.6 tdci where's the oil filter ? 8 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I've just had my car serviced by one of the major chains. Being the suspicous type, I've tried to check the work charged for. So I've had a look around the engine expecting to see a nice new clean screw-on type oil filter.
  • Rear wipers: any 90-degree ones left? 14 Nov 2008 (Forum)
These days, rear wipers all seem to be mounted centrally and to sweep almost 180 degrees - many leaving quite a lot of unswept muck at the edges and corners. Does anyone still fit an old-school 90-degree wiper to the back of a current car?
  • Volkswagen - Extended Warranty 6 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Partners VW Sharan is coming up to three years old. Just received a letter from VW offering some kind of extended warranty. Car has had nothing done under warranty in the last 3 years / 45K bar faulty parking sensors (which was the kids fault as they dropped a juice cup in the control unit under the passenget seat - dealer told us it was our fault, but fixed under warranty as "goodwill") We did originaly plan to change it at 3 years, but given the fact its been trouble free to date think we will hold on to it (plus would like to see what the new Sharan is like next year).
  • What camper van ? 11 Aug 2008 (Forum)
The size of capital outlay isn't too critical - I'm prepared to pay maybe £20,000 max but might prefer a bit less. The depreciation needs some thought though. If it was a car I'd be thinking to maybe buy at 3 - 4 years old but have no idea with a van. The classic VWs aren't cheap but don't suffer depreciation - or do they? Any hints or tips about where and how to start looking?
  • SEAT Ibiza III (2002 - 2008) - Brake fluid change not in service contract? 7 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Daughter's 4yr old Ibiza has a 2 yr service plan arranged with local SEAT dealer, to cover it's 4th and 5th year services and MOT. So I took it today as she's away on holiday (otherwise hard to wrestle the car off her).
  • Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 2001 2.0HDi Anti Pollution system warning light 24 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Hi Wonder if you can help . My daughter had a fault on her 2001 year old Peugeot Hdi 307 Diesel car and had it repaired - she need a new flywheel and sensor which were fitted by a Peugeot specialist but she now has a Anti pollution system warning come on . It subsequently went off after 2 days but has returned and she says the ESP has appeared.
  • When did you last see a `Tiger Tail`? 1 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Mentioned before, but..every car seemed to wear one... Was that Esso `tiger tail` that you used to hang from filler neck really the best fuel sales booster ever and do you still have one tucked away? It occurs to me that it would be quite a jest to do it again now using a circa 40 year old mass hysteria relic.
  • Treating corrosion 15 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I was crawling around under the car, as you do on a boring Sunday afternoon when you're waiting for the oil to drain, and noticed an area of bubbling paint. It's a '53 Almera, and the area's on a cross member, under the bottom hose where it joins the rad.
  • Subaru Impreza II fl 2 (2006 - 2007) - OE windscreen replacement 26 Feb 2008 (Forum)
A big stone hit the Impreza windscreen this morning and put a crack in it. Since the car is less than 6 months old I am keen to ensure that it is replaced only with an OE "Nippon Safety" windscreen. Obviously the insurers will want to push me to use Autoglass, who will probably fit a non-OE item.
  • Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - '97 2L petrol - symptoms of water pump failure? 26 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Oh dear, it's the old Mondeo this time! I've noticed over several months that the temperature gauge has been slowly rising when I've been in slow traffic. Then this evening, after about 20 miles of a 30 mile journey (freezing cold weather), the temperature of the air from the heater seemed to drop and the temperature indicated by the gauge started to rise.
  • Vauxhall Astra H (2004 - 2009) - Ownership experiences 1.6 VVT/1.4/1.7TD 31 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Hello, I am thinking about purchasing one of these cars later this year and would like to know what sort of ownership experiences people have had. I am thinking about buying one around a year old, and probably will go for the 1.6 VVT engine. Most likely, this will be in SXi, Design or one of the special edition trims.
  • Vauxhall Corsa C (2000 - 2006) - 01 1.0 petrol won't start after break down 18 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Folks I'm not expecting any detailed assistance here, just some words of wisdom and/or encouragement. I'm not great with older cars, but my son's 7 year old 1.0 Corsa broke down on the M25 last night and had to be towed. Apparently there was a high pitched whine from the engine, some black smoke came out the back, the engine warning light came on, and it stopped.

  • I thought 122mph on single c/way was fast 15 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Bernard Doherty, 21, from Stockport, Greater Manchester also drove at 90mph through Ecclefechan village in April. He admitted driving dangerously on the B7076 road with a seven-year-old girl unrestrained in the back seat. Doherty also pleaded guilty at Dumfries Sheriff Court to driving while disqualified and without insurance. The case was continued until 5 December. The court was told that he hit speeds of up to 90mph while driving through the small village with pedestrians and parked cars nearby.
  • Volkswagen Passat (1997 - 2000) - Tdi 115PD - Recommend turbo recon firm in NW ? 21 Oct 2007 (Forum)
My son called me last night, about 10 miles from home. His car had given a bit of a stutter then lost power, into limp home mode. He looked in the mirror to see clouds of white smoke so pulled over & rang good old dad. I was just off to work so got No 2 son to tow him home.
