Tdi 115PD - Recommend turbo recon firm in NW ? - dieselnut
My son called me last night, about 10 miles from home.
His car had given a bit of a stutter then lost power, into limp home mode.
He looked in the mirror to see clouds of white smoke so pulled over & rang good old dad.
I was just off to work so got No 2 son to tow him home.
My initial diagnosis by phone was turbo blown.
So removed the turbo today, & sure enough, the exhaust side turbo seal was alowing copious amounts of oil into the exhaust causing all the smoke.
So my question is, does anyone know of a quality turbo reconditioning service from experience. There are plenty of businesses advertised although none close to Crewe Cheshire where I live. Thanks in advance.

Is there excessive play in the shaft bearings? Are you sure that there isn't any crankcase pressure?

Hi Screwloose,
Yes , you can wobble the shaft about like you were stiring a cup of tea.
The car has done 150k & had oil/filter changes with the specific PD oil, always under the 10k mileage. Although my son has only owned it since 100k so don't know how it was treated before.

Try LSUK; they might do a reasonable one - there are so many crooks in re-con turbos.

They're better known as Lucas Service UK.

You could say that I've had a few dealings with them - I first opened an account with them in '73 when they were called Globe and Simpson.

They've been my main supplier ever since.
