I must I MUST get there before the bus 3 Aug 2003 (Forum)
So why do they put themselves in the position where they could so easily get hit by my bus? One of these days I just won't brake...! Anyway, as I said at the start, this was not intended to be a rant, just little old me relating some of the things that happen on more than a daily basis and inviting comment. Over to you.... -
Prosecution? 26 Jan 2003 (Forum)
My own suspicion is that she maybe panicked when she saw the oncoming car coming out of the sun and hit the throttle instead of the brake. Of course, there is the off chance that a steering link or suchlike failed, but this is probably unlikely because the car was low mileage and fastidiously maintained by an excellent garage. Now the question is this - will she face prosecution for careless driving? -
1966 and all that 4 Jun 2002 (Forum)
The car has never had any kind of mechanical attention other than normal servicing beyond one new alternator, brakes, hoses and belts from time to time. My mechanically-minded friends are split between the aviation breed (pull things down at specified intervals regardless) who prophesy the engine's innards (valve springs, head gasket, t/chain) are tiring and should be overhauled before something goes wrong, and the "I used to have one of them" crowd who say leave well alone, "my old man did 350 thou in one of them and never put a wrench on it etc". -
Peugeot 308 - Ball joint anti-roll bar bushes & drop link 24 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Carefully (remember you’re taking weight of the axle stand) use the trolley jack under the bottom edge of the brake disk to raise the hub (just one to two inches) while your willing assistant pushes down on the adjustable spanner. Once the taper is clear of the lower wishbone, move the trolley jack fractionally backwards towards the rear of the car. -
Land Rover Experience in Scotland 18 Aug 2004 (Forum)
First gear Low ratio diff lock, go to the edge of the hill and take the vehicle over the edge, but the secret here is to let the vehicle do the work. With the engine on tickover I just kept my foot off the accelerator and brake (and clutch!) and simply steered. WOW!!!! After getting used to the vehicle on these slopes we then went to the small dips etc. This little area consists of some small creaters, tracks, ponds and a 45° road. -
Ford Focus Coupe-Cabriolet - Ford Focus 2009 1.6l (Manual) - P0420 Live Data Re 29 Apr 2025 (Forum)
Fuel trim looks fine, rises with revs with the top end around 10%, as I believe is normal. Braking results in both sensors to switch to lean, as I believe is normal. I'm simply trying to exclude any other possibilities before I start looking at a new cat. Any nudges in the possible right direction would be a big help. -
Suzuki Swace - Some views as requested by GB 23 Jul 2024 (Forum)
Noticable as I wash it now and again, is the fact that the alloys never seem to have any brake dust on them and the alloys are still in excellent condition. This has not always been my experience on Japanese cars. I am not sure if I have missed anything or you want answers to other matters. -
Dangerous driving dispute? 21 Oct 2023 (Forum)
He then proceeded to harass me and follow me for around 15 minutes in the dark, pouring rain, banging on my car, one minute on my left, then my right, then in front of me slamming on his brakes, trying to ram me off the road at the next junction. I panicked and thought I could try and lose him so I came off the motorway and tried to lose him around a roundabout. I tried to go down one exit, but he cut across white chevrons and cut in front of me each time. -
Recent issues raised 10 Oct 2023 (Forum)
In addition to that we've had a situation in the last few days where we've had several threads on the same article: two on the MG brake issue and three on the Tesla £9k insurance quote. Moderators cannot create new sub-forums so the next best option is a separate EV thread where people can discuss all these EV articles. -
Keep Mother sweet 1 Oct 2023 (Forum)
I found it dull to pilot and thought the ride was overly firm, especially considering it was utterly joyless to drive. I’ve now had cause to borrow it for a day while old Terrance the Toyota is in for new rear brake pipes for his Mot. The newer car is however a much better little car all round. It’s a little bigger and the interior space noticeably improved, especially the boot. It’s a very practical thing. -
Nissan Note - Bought used car from trader with numerous issues 15 May 2023 (Forum)
Sub frame damaged, not even corroded, but damaged due some strike as advised by my garage 3. Middle part of exhaust system, felt off 4. Other stuff like a issue with brake piped due heavy corrosion 5. Crack on front window, I may probably do not notice it as was a heavy rain 6. Leak on rear shocks absorbers Etc etc I’ve contacted with seller, no answer I’ve checked with MOT history and found same issues were advised on last MOT but as seller has not told me about them I was under impression it’s fixed My question, could I use my consumer act right to reject to accept this car and pass it back to seller for full refund, just worried, as on paperwork I’ve sign it was a statement “I have fully inspected it and found it in satisfactory condition “ -
When a Yaris won't do... 16 May 2018 (Forum)
I steered her towards it in the first place because it's "a Japanese petrol manual" and that seems to have been a good move, because apart from normal servicing, brakes and tyres it's never need any work other than replacing the driver's door mirror on more than a couple of occasions due to her driving "style" :-( She only does about 6000 miles a year so fuel economy has been acceptable, generally running at about 38 mpg on average. -
Volvo C30 - Taking on home based car maintenance 14 Feb 2018 (Forum)
A box had been ticked that the automatic tyre pressure monitor had been reset, it doesnt have one. The hand brake was stated to have been adjusted, it now remains on after releasing and breaks free with a noticeable thud and jerk. I was coaxed into having the engine oil system flushed and also the fuel system flushed. -
Mazda 3 - Car sold with no service history. Advice/Feedback 21 Jun 2017 (Forum)
About 4 weeks ago some lights came on on the dash - Tyre pressure malfunction, Engine malfunction, DSC malfunction, DPF malfunction, Smart Brake assist malfunction. In addition the istop stopped working, and the dash section that shows you current gear and suggested gear also stopped working. I booked the car into Mazda (as advised by Stoneacre since it was under warranty), but when i took the car to Mazda I was told that I may not be covered for the work, as there was no service history with the car so the warranty could be invalid. -
Honda Jazz - Rear Ended at a Roundabout 12 Jun 2015 (Forum)
I jumped out (adrenaline pumping) to get to my kid int he back and he couldnt be more apologetic and said his "brakes had failed" and that he was "sorry" and "was my child ok". We drove round the corrner slightly to get a better look, and to get out the way of the rest of roundabout. It was so dark I couldnt see much apart from my bumper being bent. -
Rover 25 - Used car bought with no warranty offered at sale. 23 Aug 2014 (Forum)
I have looked at the service history on the net and found that before the car was sold to me it needed the front brake discs replacing, which I found had been fixed after I took it to a local garage. I am my Grandmothers carer and bought the car mainly for shopping, odometer reading said I drove 100 miles during the time it was roadworthy. -
Vauxhall Corsa D - 1.3 CDTI Intermittently/dangerously sluggish? 10 Aug 2014 (Forum)
I have a video link, which shows what "code" is being displayed when I turn the ignition and press the clutch and brake pedal in. I can't read this code properly and when I think I have it, I look on the list of Corsa D codes and it doesn't seem to match up to any of them. Can anyone read this code? http://www.youtube.com/watch? -
Mk3 Mondeo 2.2 TDCI - ACCIDENT BODY DAMAGE INVESTIGATION HELP Insurance 30 Jul 2014 (Forum)
I was in the now single lane and she was straddling the the double white line heading towards oncoming traffic. When I was aware of her proximity to me I tried to avoid her but braking and moving as far over as possible. This resulted in me clipping the curb (buckling my front passenger wheel) and she still hit my drivers wheel arch damaging both cars. This dishonest woman is claiming she never hit my car and the damage to hers was done in a previous accident. -
Alleged Speeding Offence 5 Feb 2014 (Forum)
At the time I genuinely thought I was still on a 60MPH limit road, after turning at the junction onto the 30MPH limit B road as I was actually accelerating up to 60 MPH; but then further along the road I saw 40 MPH speed limits signs and the mobile speeding camera van behind the 40MPH limit signs. I hit the brakes then wondered if I would get a NIP for doing 45 in a 40. Little did I know that the road I was on at the time had a 30MPH limit. I don't understand why this basically straight part of the road has a 30MPH limit. -
Audi A3 - Faulty car - can I ask for my money back? 21 Aug 2013 (Forum)
I bought the Audi A3 4 weeks ago (paid cash) and knew the ESP light was on when bought it, I was told the car needed new brake discs and sensor and this would all be done by the time I collected the car 2 days later. When my partner collected the car (and handed over my Smart Roadster as part ex) he was told the EPS light was still on as they had found it needed a new ABS repair kit, he then arranged to take the car back the week after to have this work done.
