VW Polo 2003 Automatic Transmission - Advice on buying a used car 29 Dec 2024 (Forum)
Everything seemed fine at first, and it still drives well, but I’ve noticed three warning lights have appeared on the dashboard. After some googling, I’ve identified them as the check engine light, the EPC light, and a brake warning light (a red exclamation mark inside a circle). When I turn the engine on, there is sometimes a loud, awful screeching sound which I’m not sure is related to these warning lights. I don’t know much about cars, and I bought this one to get more confident driving and just to get from point A to B. -
Self driving. - Non skilled driving 1 Nov 2023 (Forum)
I have always believed that the more automation you get on a car the less skilled the driver/passenger becomes, for example I do not need abs to prevent myself from losing control under braking, because I do not leave it until the last minute to start the procedure of slowing down or stopping. etc etc etc I can park the car both forward and parallel park without having to engage anything other then my eyes and the skill of my driving, I can maintain the speed of a car on level ground and over hills without electronic aid. -
2016 Peugeot 308 1.2 PureTech Allure - 2016 308 1.2 PureTech Knock Sensor Fault P0326 25 Mar 2022 (Forum)
I noticed a distinct but random on off throttle response a while back which is unusual in these engines. I had to get used to no engine braking and when it suddenly and randomly started noticeably decelerating with a jerk, I thought it was odd. Then the idle started fluttering up and down, again, randomly. The next thing that happened was, after driving it hard (My normal commute is 2.5 miles each way so sometimes I take it out and rag it to compensate) the engine suddenly lost power, stuttering power to no power and my engine warning and service light came on. -
2022 Range Rover 30 Oct 2021 (Forum)
Quite useful if you are parking on a steep road! Also, the driver can close all the doors just by holding the foot brake. A 'double' bulkhead to reduce road noise by 'up to' 24%. 5x more powerful active noise cancelling. Amazon alexa voice control (not sure I like that one..) Plug in hybrid with 62 miles of range rechargable one hour (come to think of it that's not especially impressive), but with a max official range of 87 miles. -
Find My Daughter an Auto - part 2 12 Jan 2020 (Forum)
Before anyone says it, Auto is required, manual isn't an option (and yes, I know about the left foot brake debate and I'll be talking to my daughter about that) And as always, Thanks folks... -
Audi A4 B6 - Stuttering engine then stall - 2004 1.9 TDI 23 Apr 2019 (Forum)
Does anyone have any idea of the likely reasons behind this happening? I'm a novice mechanic i.e. brake pad and filter changes etc, I just hope someone has had the same symptoms and has been able to fix. Thanks in advance all. -
Gunson - Colortune Blues (There aint no cure for the) 22 Feb 2018 (Forum)
2) Could I get one of these allegedly big female nipples (Ooer Mrs) and fill it with solder, then drill it out and get the adaptor thread to self-tap into it? 3) Failing that, could I use a bit of, say copper brake tubing filled with solder as a link between the adaptor and a standard car male-thread nipple, shown in the picture above? 2 and 3 are both a bit of a hassle but if needs must... I've got an old motorcycle plug with a threaded terminal somewhere. -
Random choice ? - Replacement (proper) 4*4 1 Nov 2017 (Forum)
There's at least one leaky injector, 2 glow plugs are definitely not working (got tested last week), the battery it on it's way out, one hub bearing sounds decidedly unhappy, there's a horrendous amount of rust appearing on the underside (in spite of me doing a decent annual treatment), there's corrosion on brake lines, and (most worryingly of all) the electrics have been flaky for the last few months - and this is definitely NOT down to the battery, it's killed one battery already this year. Put the replacement on and the electrics still not very reliable. -
Toyota MR2 mk2 - Clocked/rotten car...am I entitled to money back? 26 Oct 2017 (Forum)
Ive had to have the exhaust repaired costing 200 pounds. As well as dodgy lights fixed. Both front brakes turned out to be binding quite badly. However when I bought it they seemed fine. And I wasn't informed of any of the problems. Anyway I drew a line under it and took it to a specialist who informed me that the car is 'rotten' the sills have been botched together out of bubble wrap cardboard and had a fibreglass sill cover stuck on. -
Vauxhall Vectra C 1.9CDTi 2006 - Glow plus electrode seized 24 Oct 2017 (Forum)
Hi all, I'm seriously stuck with a glow plug repair and need some help please because if I can't fix myself I'm looking at £750 labour to take the cylinder head off to remove the seized plug, and this excludes parts!!! I've just spent £500 on a service, brake fluid change, timing and fan belt change. The car is starting to become a money pit! I can't get past the first stage of pulling out the top thin electrode. Glow plug snapped below the threaded part within the cylinder head and what remains is a thin 2mm(ish) thick electrode part that sticks up out of the head by about 2cm. -

BMW E39 535i - glitches 24 Feb 2016 (Forum)
Had been stored for 2 years but 2 months ago I replaced the battery, got an oil change/engine flush, brakes serviced and put her through the MOT. Total cost approx £500 inc parts. As I've spent this on her and the lighter evenings are coming (here's hoping!!) I'm not inclined to sell her at this time - any ads online seem to be <£1K - maybe I could do better? -
Mercedes c220 cdi se exec , reg June 2012 - catastrophic engine failure 13 Apr 2015 (Forum)
On 23rd March 2015 whilst driving about 40 mph on the A127 flyover the car started to shake violently and send out a lot of exhaust fumes. The car also began accelerating on it's own and I had to apply brakes to slow it down. The car was taken to my local MB main dealer. -
Citroen C5 2.0 HDI diesel - Coolant problems on Citroen C5 23 Jun 2013 (Forum)
But a few months ago we noticed that the coolant temperature sensor was occasionally swinging up or down wildly, then returning to normal. Last week while getting brake pads replaced at a local garage (that I've used before) I asked if they could replace the sensor too. They did it, saying they'd used a generic part (rather than Citroen official part) and to let them know if any problems. -
Pulled over by police, will i get a court summon? 26 Apr 2013 (Forum)
The police officer asked my name and asked where I was going to which i replied 'home' he then went on to tell me that i had been driving 45 in a 30 and 70 in a 60 and said that i had been braking on some straight roads. He asked if i had anything to drink to which i honestly replied no. He asked where i had been and what i had been doing, i told him where i had been and that i had been to a party. -
big van! - reckless driving 25 Apr 2013 (Forum)
I accept that I can probably be done for reckless driving as I am aware I did change lanes a bit swiftly, I was driving behind this car that seemed to be braking for no reason ( you know the ones), police said she reported that I was tailgaiting her, but to be honest she was kind of racing me futher back up the road ( I say sort of - we weren;t speeding, just playing silly b*****s trying to get in front, stupid now looking back, its strange but somedays I don't give a damn, and others I'm zipping in and out of traffic, which is pointless really. -
Ford Fusion + 1.6TDCi - Damage to locking wheel nut key 12 Feb 2013 (Forum)
He also gave me back my locking wheel nut key which was totally mangled and no longer useable. I had replacement brake disks fitted to the car in January 2013 under warranty due to a fault on them, so the wheels had been off at that point when the work was done by my local Ford garage in Bicester. Ordering a replacement key takes 3-4 weeks (according to the dealership) and as I rely on the car I didn't want to risk being without the spare for this length of time. -
Honda Jazz EX - Best Choice Tyres, limited choice 30 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Seems there are about 4 tyres available that are pretty good overall - plus a few others if funds are a problem. Choises: Continental PC2 - VG wet and dry and braking in the wet and Aquaplaning - useless in the snow or mud - had these on a previous car - loved them until it snowed, the car was good int he snow before these were fitted. - I changed to Uniroyal Rain Experts which instantly became a firm favourite - Excellent in snow and rain and still pretty good in the dry - more than good enough in fact! -
FIAT Punto - Sale of Goods Act claim - advice needed 10 May 2011 (Forum)
In accordance with their advice I authorised the work to replace the cambelt. With the service, cambelt change and some other bits (brakes, battery, coolant temperature sensor), plus the VAT, I spent nearly £800, which did smart a bit, to say the least. I wanted the car to last and be reliable though for my wife to use for commuting to work. -
2000 Peugeot 306 HDI Meridian - Correct Alloy Wheel bolts 27 Jan 2011 (Forum)
I am trying to find the correct bolts for my Peugeot 306 HDI Meridian. The reason why is as follows: I had my car serviced yesterday, all brakes and discs changed. Drove the car home and back to work this morning. On the drive to work I heard a knocking noise, one I knew, loose wheel nuts! Luckily I was literally at work so after arrving checked the wheel and found one bolt missing, and all remaining loose!
