Series III Land Rover brakes 9 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Hello all, I wonder if I could gather some advice. My III series brake pedal "goes down more than usual", and now the brakes are not particularly effective. This happened quite suddenly a few weeks ago, but with a bit of pumping comes back up again, but doesn't last more than one application of the brakes. -

Citroen DS5 - Wheels and brakes 19 Aug 2015 (Forum)
When I turned up at the garage they had the wrong set, quickly rectified so no problem, however it turned out that because I'd specced 18" wheels instead of the standard 17" the brakes had been up sized as well. I've always found the brakes on the DS superb and they do fill the wheel but assume the standard brakes also to be well up to the job. My question is do most manufacturers do this (I do see a lot of cars with big wheels and disproportionately small discs) and if so is it for cosmetic reasons. -
Honda Shuttle/Odyssey (1995 - 2000) - 1999 2.3 Odd brake problem 14 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Has anyone got any ideas about a problem we are having with our Honda Shuttle. The OSR brake is not coming off straight away when you release the brake pedal. We have replaced the brake calliper but the problem is still there. Discs and pads were also replaced with calliper. Wheel gets hot after about 10 miles of driving, wheel nuts too hot to touch but wheel is warm. -

Help! Honda binding brake caliper 14 Jun 2004 (Forum)
I am now about to order a reputable reconditioned unit. Should I check for anything else first? Can a binding brake cause a fire? The brakes were originally fitted with backing shims but my local supplier told me that they don't bother to fit these nowadays. Many thanks Mikey. -
Volkswagen Passat CC (2013) - Catastrophic brake failure after service error 1 Oct 2015 (Forum)
It must have fallen off and leaked braking fluid as I was on the A road. There was no warning light, no sponginess or loss of braking prior to the roundabout. VW have accepted full responsibility, but want to know what we think is reasonable compensation. -
Rear brake lights 28 Mar 2024 (Forum)
Can anyone remember when pedal-operated brake lights became standard ? I recall learning, about 1960 I suppose, the hand signal showing I was about to slow down, so I suppose there may still have been vehicles without braking lights ? Also those silly 'trafficators' which the driver forgot, and snapped off when he got out of the car .... -

Regenerative compression braking 9 Aug 2018 (Forum)
Why don't manufacturers fit an air tank (Like those found on HGVs for the brakes - standard industry tech) and use the 'wasted' compression strokes as a brake to fill the tank, and use the compressed air like a small battery for stop-start traffic? The engine could still run and power A.C. etc etc that way, with nothing but air out the exhaust. -
