MK2 golf 1.3 1990-brake discs worn?

Hello

How do i tell if the front left brake disc is worn? There has been a scraping/scouring sound from the left side for over 12 months under heavy braking and recently downhill this was accompanied by a squeal. I have not noticed any other problems apart from this. I changed the brake pads when I first noticed this about 12 months ago but the noise continues.
It got through last MOT fine and as the next one is due am wondering whether to get the discs changed before the next one?

There ought to be a minimum thickness stamped on the disks although if they are original it may have rusted away as it is sometimes on the edge. A workshop manual, hayes etc may well have the spec in them (library copy?). If you're worried then for the sake of 20 or 30 quid a pair, I'd change them. If they're original one then 15 years is a fair old time.
