  • Marks on a motorcycle swingarm 8 Mar 2007 (Forum)
So why is it seemingly beyond the manufacturers to make the little marks used to gauge chain adjustment on the swingarm accurate enough to set up the rear wheel alignment by? It seems ridiculous that the only satisfactory method of doing this, which is also used by the MOT man, is to stick a straight bit of wood or metal either side of the wheel and line it up by eye against the front wheel?
  • cmax recalls? 3 Jan 2007 (Forum)
hello, a few months back i was reading the Society of Operations engineers magazine and it had a whole bunch of recalls that it had pulled off of VOSA. one of the recalls i noticed was for the Cmax. the falut was said to be ' a mis-alignment of the oil feed up to the camshaft bearings' it goes on to say that the falut can cause premature wear to the bearings and/or engine failure. the trouble is it doesn't give much info on vehicle spec. no chassis numbers, doesn't say whether its petrol or diesel variant. it does however give a quantity of vehicles affected, 160. after numerous calls to ford, avoiding my helpless dealership, they couldn't tell me anything about this so called fault. has any body heard or dealt with this fault. i am concerned a little due to my car only having a year left on the warranty> cheers peeps!
  • Foglights and xenons 3 Feb 2004 (Forum)
And while I'm moaning about lights, I really want xenons on my next motor: a) they look really cool, and b) I'll stand a better chance of seeing where I'm going when ill-aligned xenons come the other way (and there seem to be quite a few these days).
  • Just driven over a fence post at speed.. 16 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I can\'t check to see if there\'s supposed to be an inner balance weight, and if its there or not. Would getting the alignment / balance done cure the problem or have I damaged the structure of the tyre? Have I screwed up the wheel geometry and landed myself a big bill? The car is RWD with PAS, 205/60 tyres TIA Dorian.
  • Xsara suspension problems 24 Feb 2002 (Forum)
At high speed or enthusiactic (sp) driving the wheel thumps along the road (not really wobble), been to citroen garage (PC Tonkins, Cornwall) with no joy and £60 out of my pocket for 4 wheel alignment, the result was front wheels ok, but back wheels out: left rear 0.6mm (spec range 1.75 - 2.75mm) and right rear 0.1mm (same range). But they are none adjustable therefore will be like that for eva unless new parts fitted.

  • BMW Steering/Suspension Alignment 25 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I was told that they could do a four-wheel check using their new £26000 machine but this would cost me a lot more money and the rear wheel alignment on my car is not adjustable anyway. They said that if the tyres are wearing OK there's nothing to worry about. So I now have four new 225/60R15-V Continental Eco CP tyres balanced & fitted, with steering & front suspension settings checked and toe-in reset at a cost of £360 inclusive.

  • Multiple Mechanics.. different diagnoses.... 8 Dec 2015 (Forum)
I bought my car back in Feb 15, i use it as a taxi so it's more than a car its my lively hood....   Since i got the car it has always pulled to the left... but it aint an alignment issue as if i hold the wheel centred it will go straight but i can feel it wanting to pull through my hands.   So for months i tried alignments... was told by one mechanic it was due to the car sitting lower on one side.... so took it to another guy for a second opinion... he told me that it wasnt sagging... it was a sticking strut mount....

  • Skoda Octavia Estate - Main Dealer 14 Nov 2021 (Forum)
They stated that the work was not listed with the records of Skoda uk. Surely you would think the records would align but alas no! Glad I insisted on a complete history print out when buying the car as there is no service book with the model. How many folks are ripped off by trusting the main dealer and having unnecessary work done?.
  • Seat Ibiza - Rear Brake Discs Faulty? 13 Jul 2020 (Forum)
I’ve booked into the SEAT dealership next week for them to take a look but they have said they’ll charge £79 if they don’t believe it comes under the warranty. Anybody able to help advise on whether something could be mis-aligned etc. Or do you think it’s just bad luck and come under ‘wear and tear’. Pictures here .   Any thoughts welcome.
  • Audi - Paint issue - insurance or repairer? 25 Jul 2018 (Forum)
The edge of the driver's door where it meets the wing is now starting to peel away showing rust underneath - either not finished correctly at the join, or there is also a rubber strip inside the wing which seems to be slightly askew and perhaps wasn't aligned properly and has been rubbing on the edge of the door when it opens. In terms of the "guarantee", do I return to the repairer, or contact the insurance company (who I am no longer with). Can I expect a courtesy car (as can't see how I would manage without a car for several weeks) as this was part of the original insurance package?
  • Hyundai 1.4 eco IX20 2012 - steering pulls to left 8 Mar 2015 (Forum)
The dealers said that they had retracked the wheels, but that did not completely cure the problem,so I had it rechecked on a computer tracking system & they found the front nearside wheel out of alignment. unfortunatly this has still not completely cleared the fault as when driving on good roads I still have to hold the steering as the car still seems to slightly pull to the near sideand the steering still seems very sensitive to the road camber & ruts ect .Its not serious but makes driving the car unpleasant, not at all like the IX20 eco 1.6 diesel they lent me while they had my car any suggestions would be welcome
  • LED or Xenon Headlamps 17 Nov 2014 (Forum)
Whilst asking, I know many drivers complain the brightness of poorly aligned Xenon headlamps sometimes blind oncoming drivers, are LED headlamps more friendly towards oncoming traffic?
  • Vauxhall Astra Sporthatch - Reversed out of the driveway but driver side...? 18 Sep 2014 (Forum)
I reversed out of my drive way about 1-5mph and I didn't turn the wheel to the left which the driver side(front and rear) of the tyres ended up backed out from the driveway kerb then pavement kerb which I'm worried if I damaged the car tyre or suspension/car/alignment/steering wheel. When I had backed out from the kerb my car bounced hard as it was leaving from the kerb to the tarmac.  The picture circled in yellow is a rough indication of where my driver side reversed from the property and pavement kerb   The car is a astra 2010 H 3dr hatchback.

  • Any - Do three door cars have bigger front doors? 23 Jan 2013 (Forum)
If this is the case then does Ford have to build different shells for the cars as the pillar will be aligned differently depending on the number of doors the car has? Is it just the Ford Focus that has different sized front doors who do other manufacturers do the same? I’m interested to know if a three door car will be better for me to get in and out of as I’m 6’ 4” and do have trouble of getting in and out.
