  • Hyundai Tucson - Power Failure Same Place 6 Apr 2022 (Forum)
It happens on a busy B road with a 90 degree bend. On approaching the bend at about 20mph and lightly applying the brakes the car stalled and has to be restarted (park, ignition key turned). I am thinking this could be due to the gearbox getting confused re the odd camber of the road and acceleration dynamics, choosing the wrong gear and stalling (though a DSG can slip the clutch) or it  could be due to the  number of high powered phone and emergency services transmitters by the side of the road on the corner interfering with the engine management system.
  • BMW 1 Series - Not the best with cars - water pump 15 Dec 2021 (Forum)
Also I had no advisories on the last MOT, but obviously with the distance I travelled is it worth just get the brakes checked? I can’t find how thin they should be, before they are no good. I have a major service booked next week with Halfords, but only because I got a big discount. I have been advised to get any work done at a regular garage because it will be more expensive at somewhere like Halfords or a specialist.
  • Smart City Coupe - Price increased used car after deposit? Legal? 14 May 2021 (Forum)

  • Peugeot 5008 - Car starting problems - electrical fault 25 Dec 2020 (Forum)
Every so often, with no rhyme or reason, I get a warning light when I go to start the car that says 'Braking System faulty' and then lots of electirical warning lights come on. Absolutely nothing happens with the engine when I try to start the car. But, if I leave it for a few hours, it then starts ok although the battery light stays on and then it goes off after a while.
  • What do you do to maintain your car? 28 Jul 2020 (Forum)
Hello everyone,, I bought my first car , a 1964 Dodge Dart middle of last year. Spent a ton of money getting brakes fixed, engine fixed, etc. But didn’t check my suspension. Figured I’d get to it when I had the money. Well last week I was driving my friend home (were on the same street) and about a block out, I heard a ping.

  • "DPF fluid is low, fill up" - Peugeot 508 Woes 6 Jan 2020 (Forum)
So it went into Peugeot dealers with a quote to fill tank and reset the tank    6 hours later and they tell me i need:- A windscreen, a clutch, a tyre, a car battery, a key battery, front brakes (only done 12,000 miles ago), and other bric-a-brac However the DPF is FUBAR and they wont fill the DPF fluid tank  Eventually they get 1ltr in but wont "bother" resetting it...........
  • Citroen C2 - General help with separating a bottom ball joint 7 Mar 2019 (Forum)
I have studied the joint and dont really know where to start.  Do I need to jack up part of suspension/brake hub in order to counteract the weight? I bought a scissor style seperating tool as I read they were the best type, but it looks like this wont fit on the bottom ball joint.  It looks more designed for the ball joint higher up.
  • Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - 2005 1.6VVT - Engine Stalls in Cold weather 2 Feb 2019 (Forum)
After the repair, I noticed a few problems which was reported to the dealer, the fuel consumption has gone up, lossing 3-4 miles per gallon, and that on cold start up stalling problems. The car starts up ok, I reverse out and drive away 20-40 metres I engage clutch and brake to slow or stop car and the engine cut-out it does this until engine warms. The problems persist in the evening after work. Can anyone help in diagnosing and telling me the problem and solution?
  • Peugeot 206 SW 2004/53 - Peugeot 206 SW Rear window/wiper problem 17 Oct 2018 (Forum)
The rear window opens seperatly to the boot but does not de-mist and the rear wiper does not work. Possible a seperate issue (bulb may need changing) but the 3rd brake light also doesn't work. The vehicle was taken to a Peugeot specialist local to us and they said the vehicle will need a rear window replacement as the rear wiper takes its power from the glass. My customer has found that they can claim on their insurance (which doesn't affect their no claims bonus) for a replacement rear window and would have to pay an excess of £75.

  • Ford Focus - How many reverse lights does a Ford Focus Mk2 have 2 Jan 2018 (Forum)
To me it's daft as, depending on where you stand, you wouldn't be able to see it. Now either side of the rear windscreen you have a red piece of plastic (I presume the brake lights) and a clear piece of plastic which are the indicators. I haven't looked but should this clear plastic house the reverse lights too (so there would be a plain light bulb for the reverse light and an orange one for the indicator)?
  • For a 25 year Old - Fun throwaway (hopefully not) 19 Dec 2017 (Forum)
Doesn't need to be "fast" excellent road manners would be nice,,, budget £2500 ish. willing to spend about that or less and make sure brakes and tyres are good after if not happy with that part after purchase. Ideas? Car will be registered in my name, kept here and he will not be "fronted" but will usually be with us (me) when he drives it.
  • 2011 Focus 1.8 Duratec - Mk2.5 Focus acceleration/throttle issues? 17 Oct 2017 (Forum)
However, over long distance journeys-150 to 200+miles it has a habit where it begins to feel like the car is braking gently, only slightly perceptable and almost like hitting a wall of air. Aftef 10-20 minutes of this the "i" light comes on displaying engine malfunction and then goes into reduced speed mode.  Restarting the car fixes the problem and thus far I have been unable to diagnose the issue.

  • KIA Rio 2 1.2 manual 1 year and - 10,000 miles on 10 Dec 2015 (Forum)
Equipment levels good, no complaints at all and everything working as expected. Steering and Brakes fine, fitted 4 new AVOn ZV5  just around 19000 miles as wanted plenty of tread before the alleged harsh winter that might be coming. Roomy and comfortable enough, but a pit stop needed on long jouneys, but no complaints on day to day driving.
  • Peugeot 1.9D 1997 non turbo no abs manual gbox - peugeot 1.9D engine fail 2 Nov 2015 (Forum)
This feels like a write-off but it is beyond my experience... i generally get my old cars through the MOTs but only go as far as welding/ suspention/ brakes, that kind of stuff... If anyone can give a hint as to where to start looking or if I should just tow it to the scrappa!! cheers, D.
  • Steyr Daimler Puch - A testimony to German Engineering 29 Sep 2015 (Forum)
Our 1998 SDP 290GD Van has been sitting parked up in a grass field since Feb 2013, I sliped(i.e. dragged) her out, unstarted (& not the slightest sign of sticking brakes at all btw) sometime earlier this summer with the tractor, and left her parked up on concrete, nonetheless grass was still growing out from the bottom of the drivers door, today.  All 4 tyres still 100% inflated too I put a new battery in her this evening, and turned the key, she started 100% ABSOLUTLY on the first turn (the Yausa battery I fitted does kick out 700 A mind) No flatuence spluttering or misfires at all, at all, at all.
  • Lost control on roundabout, part ducks, Kumho tyre 5 Jun 2015 (Forum)
I have zero confidence in these Kumho KH27 tyres, they are dangerous. Straight line braking is fine, transverse grip is poor. Ever since they were fitted, a month ago, I've sensed a hard to define lack of grip when cornering, and today just confirms that suspicion. So, avoid Kumho tyres is my advice.
