  • Seat Leon - Kwik Fit, something positive! 29 Apr 2021 (Forum)
Now my daughter, like so many these days, is working from home so was happy to get the cheapest price for this as waiting in all day was not a problem. 5 quid to save the hassle of driving into branch, waiting around town, the usual nonsense about needing new brakes etc....no brainer! Just thought I'd mention it in case it helps anyone out.
  • Changing a flat tire: What to do & NOT to do? 12 Jan 2021 (Forum)
Do:   Have the necessary tools Mind the jacking points Engage the parking brake Wear protective gloves Don't: Ignore the right jack Loosen the lug nuts after lifting the car Forget to bring out the spare first Let the nuts dry up Do you have more idea?
  • Peugeout 306 HDI meridian Diesel 1999 model - Meaning of warning light on dashboard 21 Sep 2020 (Forum)
Under the car are two tracks crisscrossing each other like an x. Is this something to do with the traction or anti- brake locking system? And is it safe to make a 34 mile return journey today and perhaps a 6 mile journey tomorrow? Thank you PennyP
  • Kia Picanto - Same MOT Failure for the Last Three Years 24 Aug 2020 (Forum)
Hello I'm looking at a car from a private seller (haven't contacted or viewed the car yet) and I've done an MOT history and it's highlighted the same failure (amongst other things) in each of the last three MOT's: Parking brake lever has excessive movement indicating incorrect adjustment (1.1.6 (C)). As it subsequently passed, I'm assuming it was then correctly adjusted but I'm worried that as it comes up every year, will the whole handbrake need replacing at near point?
  • Jaguar XJL - What will the insurers do? 17 Jun 2020 (Forum)
I wasn't driving, I have a chap to do that for me. We were following quite a visible motorbike, which had to brake sharply when someone ran into the road. My chap stopped OK, but a Range Rover following us closely didn't stop and ran into the back of the Jag. Nobody was hurt (but I haven't been tested for whiplash yet) but there's damage to the Jag which I don't think will polish out.
  • Any EV/hybrid - EVs for an engaging drive 9 Jun 2020 (Forum)
I wouldn't mind so much if I could choose myself when to use electric or ICE for a hybrid. Same with regenerative braking or any other adjustment or control I could have. . Please tell me this isn't the future. It seems like we are reverting to fairground dodgem cars. We'll then hate them so much we'll beg for automated self driving cars from Gxxgle map directions.
  • Many - Workshop Manuals 5 Mar 2020 (Forum)
Recently downloaded a Daihatsu Mira manual, which seems to have similar front brakes to my (AFAIK undocumented) Daihatsu Skywing. It can be frustrating and risky searching for manuals online since a lot of the sites are fake clickbait and some of them are well dodgy. This site seems OK , with a limited selection of fairly mainstream older models available, and no obvious commercial motivation.
  • If you could choose one foot operated device... 16 Feb 2020 (Forum)
Now that we're heading inexorably towards a world of automatic hybrid/electric propulsion and within a few years manual gearboxes will be a distant memory... Without wanting to get into the left-foot braking debate, if you could choose one foot-operated car gadget to give the soon-to-be idle left foot something to do, what would it be? A 70s Ford wash/wipe? A dipswitch? Maybe a blood curdling get-out-of-the-way horn?
  • Peugeot 307 CC 55 Plate - Offside Rear Light Failure 18 Nov 2019 (Forum)
Basically the offside rear lights have stopped working on my girlfriends car.  The number plate light, boot lid cluster and main cluster have all stopped.  The brake light, indicator and fog light all remain working.  Looking at the light cluster, it's LED and not a single lamp, and to confirm this, I removed the cluster from the car, so that rules a lamp fault out.
  • 2010 1.6 Petrol - Toyota Auris starting issue. 27 Jul 2019 (Forum)
Over the last couple of weeks she has had two or three occasions when the car has failed to start using the usual foot on the clutch technique. The only way the car would start in these instances was to apply the foot brake at the same time as the clutch pedal. I has asked this question of Honest John but only been told that it seems to be confused whether it is a petrol or diesel vehicle, but nothing more !. Have anyone else had this sort of issue and give any advice on what to do if it persists.

  • MGZS - Autotrader questionable review? 2 Sep 2018 (Forum)
For heavens sake it's not a Po-face jag (sorry mean f pace) Questionable safety record.. what is the reviewer on? they want 5***** from a £12k car. I want something without all the braking assistance, lane departure etc, as less to go wrong.
  • Skoda Fabia - Hiring Cars abroad 30 May 2017 (Forum)
Wrong it had and this was noted including an attempted break in on the drivers door. But what a pathetic engine the three cylinder 60 brake is trying to power a heavy car like the Polo or Fabia. Hill starts are a nightmare and should be avoided if possible. Definitely a car to be avoided unless you live in the flatlands of Lincolnshire or East Anglia
  • Honda CR-V 2.0 Automatic - Servicing a Honda CRV 19 May 2017 (Forum)
Has anyone used and have experience of 'www.servicingingstop.co.uk' The're offer is for £133 for a honda CR-V.They collect and deliver back. I've posted here before about brake squeaking sound, when the honda dealer examined it said it was normal and it was the characteristics of the car, I am not sure I accept that. Where might it be a good place to service the car, a colleague had his honda serviced at the honda dealer, he seemed less than satisfied.
  • Ford Fiesta - How long does a car last? 30 Aug 2016 (Forum)
How much longer can I expect my 2003 1.4 zetec fiesta to last? It has 140K; new brakes and cambelt at 90K and clutch at 130k.  Its worth just under 2k and i ideally don't want to spend much more than £500 on any repairs.  All is running fine for now as i do my own basic servicing (oil, filters, plugs etc), but i don't want to be stuck with a massive repair bill.

  • Unmarked car 4 May 2016 (Forum)
I was following the car quite closely in the 30 zone but they didn't seem to bother about that it was just when we got to a slight bend they put the foot down on the brakes and flashed the lights for a maximum of 5 seconds Cheers
  • Ford Focus - Skidding infront of Speed Camera 17 Feb 2016 (Forum)
The speed limit was 50, I was doing about 60. I noticed the camera late and ended up skidding as a result of braking sharply. I don't know If I was caught by the camera as it was a "heart-in-mouth" moment and left shaken pretty badly. The car eventually stopped on the side of the road with no one injured, nothing happened to the car or anything.
