Citroen DS5 - New CITROEN DS5 - bad paint job, steering faults 15 Feb 2019 (Forum)
There was no more steering wheel vibration at motorways cruise but still the steering wheel was shaking under braking sometimes. The steering shake under braking was pointed out by me to dealer's Service Manager when we test drove the car together but he informed me that this was normal because of the road condition which I strongly rejected. -
BMW M3 CS - Multiple Faults from purchase, No Help from Dealer 15 Jun 2013 (Forum)
I understand that Samuel Evans has offered for our workshop to inspect your brake calipers and no cost. However whether the problem can be remedied by cleaning or replacing the caliper, there will be a charge made to you on the basis that brakes represent a component that is subject to wear and tear. -
Kia Sportage 2017 - Dear Kia 16 Aug 2020 (Forum)
If you'd like to see them there is a comprehensive feature here: https://www.kiaownersclub.co.uk/threads/brakes-bled-or-not.50681/#post-328723 The dealership Manager was unable to tell from the photos and despite his investigations there was nothing to suggest as to why the brake fluid change had been omitted but charged for. -
Multiple - Thoughts / opinions on the listed car ads 2 Mar 2019 (Forum)
For the Avensis, I think the auto would be a better choice than the manual; one because of the better fuel economy of CVT and, two because of the EPB in the Avensis. With an auto transmission, I suppose you can avoid using the parking brake while stopped in traffic, and use the park mode on the auto transmission. Also I'm not sure how convenient a one touch release parking brake is with a manual transmission. I understand that the parking brake can be allowed to auto release. -
Volkswagen T5 Transporter - Handbrake Fail 9 Mar 2015 (Forum)
I wrote to Volkswagen to state my concerns about the handbrake and that I felt that the brake had not been engaging fully after the feel of it after their mechanic tightened the cable. They were slow to respond to my complaint and after no confirmation of receiving it for weeks, eventually got back to me to say that their mechanic said he only tweaked the brake cable and that in his opinion it was driver error by not leaving it in gear on a slope. -
Hit and Run Compensation 3 Jun 2010 (Forum)
i am just worried that his defence might blame my brother and say it is his fault, does anybody know if he could claim compensation to help with his rehab and injuries, and do a case on the driver who didnt even bother to brake, but also run another case against the school who surely had a contractual duty to take children safely home and not leave them on a busy main road just because they try to avoid a one way road. -
Just a very short BMW dealer rant 24 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Just as a side note to my little rant, would people stick EBC Greenstuffs on this car? I'm tempted by a lack of brake dust! Blue -
MOT Retest Rip-off??? 19 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I have just had a car MOT'd at my local garage which I have used regualarly for the last few years and it failed on pitted front brake discs. The car in question belongs to a member of my family and only does around 1000 miles per year It is on a 1988 F plate, so it has seen almost 18 years service even though it has a genuine mileage of 56000 miles. -
2004 Honda Civic 1.6 Sport Problems 27 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Took it back again this time they heard a slight noise and resurfaced the brake pads and discs. This has cured the screech but the brakes sound rougher than they did before. The next problem was with the metal effect surround for the gear gaiter. Everytime I put it in gear it creaked. -
Honda CR-V - Unexpected 2020 CR-V Hybrid electronics melt-down 7 Apr 2025 (Forum)
Last week the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree with multiple error warnings - and even more alarming I lost all power applying the brakes unless I pushed very hard on the brake pedal. The car has led an uneventful life so far .... serviced by my local Honda agency exactly at annual intervals and only averaged 6,000 miles per year, it has not been in an accident or submerged in floods! -
Renault Clio - Faulty vehicle 8 Oct 2023 (Forum)
New service and MOT 2 months old. After a couple of weeks a horrible grinding noise was coming from the engine, along with a brake issue. I returned it to the garage and they diagnosed a faulty gearbox and warped brake discs. I had only done 150 miles in that time. They claimed on the warranty for the gearbox and replaced with a reconditioned one. -
Any SI engine you fancy doing it to - Cleaning Spark Plugs 8 Jul 2023 (Forum)
Attempting to revive the art, I used a hypodermic syringe with a long wide blunt needle (sold at Daiso makeup section for unknown and probably scary purpose) to fill the plug nose with coffee-filtered old brake fluid, plugs stood nose up in a plastic beaker. Periodically skoosh some more in, re-using the overflow from the bottom of the beaker. The brake fluid gets VERY black. You could use a conventional hypodermic for this, its sharp tip would make a better pick, and you could probably generate more pressure (screw-on needle only) as I do for carb cleaning, BUT if you tried recycling the fluid your needle would probably block. -
Peugeot 308 - Peugeot 308 - good buy second hand or a money pit? 24 Feb 2020 (Forum)
There have been a number recalls for the Peugeot 308, including problems with the brakes, headlights and electrics. A franchised dealer should be able to tell you if the work has been carried out. The sunday times review states http://www.driving.co.uk/car-reviews/peugeot-308-mk1-review-2007-2013/ The 308 has been recalled 17 times (at last count) since its launch in late 2007, for electrical glitches, numerous brake faults, fuel leaks, a potential loss of power steering and even a collapsing driver’s seat; most recent recalls have been for problems with steering, shock absorbers, faulty rear windscreen seals and fuel leaks which could lead to an engine fire. -
Citroen Picasso and other Models - Citroen Engine Fault Light Problem some solutions 21 Aug 2019 (Forum)
I disconnected the battery and then removed the main connectors from the ECU / EMU (Engine Control Unit). Someone had spilled brake fluid into the central socket and it was obviously changing the electrical signal volvages. It took two goes to clean it out, no problem since. This may not apply to many, but when you get TFLCO it's worth checking for brake / power steering fluid in all the connectors and sensors on the engine block near the fluid containers. -
09 Jaguar XF - Rear Disc replacemnts 24 Nov 2016 (Forum)
So the question is, are Jaguar making the discs deliberately thin in order to keep the workshop busy or are Jaguar using inferior quality metal in the manufacture of the discs, or alternately, are the brake pads too hard and therefore effectively grinding the discs down too quickly. -
Skoda Yeti - Skoda Yeti misleading brochure 3 Dec 2013 (Forum)
On the page setting out the specific functions of the button, it describes the first as "Uphill Start Assist" which in the owners manual, explains this is where the brakes are actuated on an incline. Couldn't be clearer. My wife is a bit nervous on hill starts and we intended to use it in hilly terrain a lot so imagine the disappointment when we let go of the brakes on the first hill we found only to roll back almost to oblivion. -
Use of fogs - question replied to by Honest John 16 Jan 2013 (Forum)
As the Highway Code notes, you can also miss brake lights going on, depending upon the car's rear lighting configuration. At best, you get unpleasant eye strain, especially if you're stationary behind the vehicle in a traffic queue. That must all sound like a statement of the obvious to experienced/careful drivers, but it's depressingly common to find thoughtless drivers using fogs unnecessarily - and illegally. -
Rover 25 - Handbrake efficiency mot fail. 23 Sep 2012 (Forum)
Surely it'd also affect the rear-wheel braking? Having fitted new pads, the bloke in the overalls then adjusts the cable. 'Why didn't he just do that first?' thinks me. Am I simply being unduly cynical? Other than that, the service was ok. -
Vauxhall Vivaro - vivaro maf sensor 13 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Hi all i have a 2006 vauxhall vivaro 1.9 dti a few months back i had a diagnostics check on it and it came back with a faulty maf sensor so i bought a new one off ebay for £30 i fitted it and it seemed ok but not alot better i had another diagnostics check on it and it came back with three different fault codes to the original code these are as follows P0100-not present (maf sensor) P0400-not present (egr valve) P0113-not prsent (intake air temp sensor) after a bit of research it seems the cheap maf i bought of ebay has a bit of a bad reputation for being of substandard quality so i bought one from a local motor factors for £120 i fitted this cleaned the egr and took the van out for a spin and all seemed to be well the van pulled alot better idle revs didnt drop as they did before no lack of power when cold and the black smoke had dissapeared sorted i thought got back home and ran another diagnostics and annoyingly i got the same 3 fault codes i put this down to my opcom being rubbish as everythimg seemed so much better but this morning a day after fitting the new maf i started the van up and all the probs where back again it runs better than before but still the smoke and the dropping idle revs. The revs drop to nearly 0 when i brake for a junction it dosnt quite cut out but is close to it as soon as i release the brakes the rvs go back to a normal 850? im now thinking perhaps ive disturbed a dodgy wire going to maf does anybody have any ideas on how i can check this any input would be appretiated. -
