Okay, Golf Mk IV V5 170, then. Though they could work out very dear to buy new, these were never a brilliant drive. This one was 2001Y with 26k and the bidding started at £9,000. Mini to be auctioned for charity 31 Oct 2016 (News)
Millie moved to Steyning in the early 1980s, and continued to use the car regularly around the area until she took the decision to stop driving simply because she worried that if she was involved in any form of accident she would automatically be blamed because of her age. Margo was eventually inherited by Mrs Properjohns’ daughter, Joan, when Millie passed away at the fine age of 100 years and six weeks, who stored the car in a garage in 2004. Now returned to her original condition in gleaming Tartan Red, the campaign will reach its climax when Margo tempts bidders at auction when offered without reserve as part of Silverstone Auctions’ catalogue at its Classic Motor Show Sale at the NEC. -
A Grand Monday: Lada Samara 10 Oct 2016 (News)
Launched in its homeland in 1984 as the rather more sexy-sounding Lada Sputnik, it would be another four years before Lada - or VAZ, as the company was known in Russia - would be able to export the car, such was the pent-up demand for the new model in its home market. The three or five-door hatchback was Lada’s first foray into front-wheel-drive, and a massive step forward from the old-fashioned Fiat 124-based Riva models. It came with Lada’s own range of OHC engines (an adventure itself in terms of parts availability today), but UK buyers were sadly denied the opportunity to buy the Mazda RX-7-style twin rotary Wankel engine variant. -

A Grand Monday: Ford Sierra Mk1 7 Sep 2015 (News)
Controversial when new, it polarised opinion so much that even Ford’s senior management were concerned it was too avant-garde. Yet despite its humble underpinnings (live rear axle, rear-wheel-drive and Pinto engine), there’s no denying that the slippery Sierra was one of the cars that truly redefined the direction of car design. It was imitated by many and bettered by quite a few, but that doesn’t alter the fact it was the first mainstream car to properly step away from the traditional ‘three-box’ layout that had become the norm, and for that it sparked a design revolution. -
Chris Evans has a clear-out for Goodwood Revival auction 17 Aug 2015 (News)
Almost certain to achieve the highest price is Chris’ 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB/6C, its top-end estimate of almost £3 million being aided by the sheer rarity of an alloy-bodied right-hand drive example. Cheapest car on offer is a modified Abarth-badged Fiat 126 of 1983 vintage, which is expected to fetch up to £15,000. Meanwhile, anyone interested in classic British sportsters who has around £60,000 to splash out will no doubt be tempted by the ex-police Daimler SP250 ‘Dart’ and the ’58 Jaguar XK150 Fixed Head Coupe. -
