15 New Marques to be at London Motor Show

Sat, 14 Jun 2008
The British International Motor Show, sponsored by Zurich Connect, will host the UK’s largest gathering of cars and car makers when the doors open on 23 July, with over 60 manufacturers represented. The line-up will include 15 marques making their debut at the ExCeL show.

Among the names which will make their first appearance at the waterside venue are legendary Italian brands Ferrari and Maserati, who will each display their current range of luxury and sports cars.

Subaru and Suzuki will also be new to the ExCeL event, along with electric vehicle specialists Quiet Cars and Tesla. These brands will be joined by nine other first-timers, including Westfield, Isuzu, Zagato, LSE, Brabus and AC Schnitzer. Supercar manufacturers Koenigsegg and Gumpert and luxury sportscar firm Spyker complete the list.

Several manufacturers have already announced that they will use the Show for global debuts of their new vehicles, underlining the international significance of the exhibition. Among these are some of the year’s most significant new cars, such as the Vauxhall/Opel Insignia and an all-new sports car from Lotus. Many more manufacturers are expected to announce unveilings before the Show opens next month.

The Show’s Marketing Director, Kirsty Perkinson, anticipates that the exhibition will surpass the success of the 2006 event, which drew over 415,000 people to ExCeL.

“We’ve got some really exciting newcomers with fabulous cars, such as the 200 mph Koenigsegg Edition and the ultra-exclusive Gumpert Apollo that will be joining the fantastic line-up of other models from the majority of the world’s car manufacturers.

“With so many new additions to the Show line-up, and with over half a million people expected to attend, we are confident that visitors and exhibitors will enjoy a great experience this summer – even better than2006’s multi-award-winning Show.

“We are delighted that a number of world premières will be taking place, and there will be a host of brand new attractions to entertain show-goers, including the Heritage Enclosure and Parade, the Marine Experience and Kids Driving Experiences.”

Many manufacturers are taking their involvement to another level by providing interactive experiences for members of the public. For example, Show-goers can visit Dreamscape: Honda’s live action arena, where they will be treated to an action-packed display featuring Honda cars, motorcycles and even ASIMO – Honda’s advanced humanoid robot.

Commenting on the absence of a small number of car makers, Perkinson said, “As with all international Motor Shows, we would love to have every brand present at the Show and we are disappointed that a minority have chosen to pass up the opportunity. They will miss out on the
chance to participate in the UK’s biggest motoring exhibition.”

BMW will not return to the Show this year, citing its 12-month sponsorship of The O2 as a factor in its decision, but the BMW Group remains supportive – MINI will have a substantial presence again this year. The other notable brands which are due to miss the Show – Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche – did not attend the last event in 2006.

“VW, Audi and Porsche were absent last time, and the Show was still a great success. We are confident that the unrivalled line-up of marques, the stunning world and European debuts that are planned, the excitement of the numerous interactive features and the international status of the exhibition will make 2008's Show a sensational event for all,” she concluded.

There will be further announcements about exhibitors and world debuts in the run-up to the Show.
