Mobile speed trap fines expected to rise by 40% 10 Jan 2006 (News)
One drawback to the Quintezz detector is that false alerts are likely at traffic lights and supermarket doors; however, this is thought to be a small inconvenience to motorists compared to the cost losing your driving licence. www.carparts-direct.co.uk claims record sales for the Quintezz speed camera detector were recorded in the run up to Christmas. -

Rovers Not Selling at Auction Today 4 Jul 2005 (News)
This one did. It was 97,000 mile 2000W 75 1.8 Club SE and made £2,300. Another 75, a 98S left hand drive but 22k mile and immaculate 75 1.8 Club with satnav confounded the vultures by selling for £3,375. But a clutch of 54 reg facelift Rovers and MGs didn’t get anywhere near reserve: 2,225 mile MG ZR 1,8 120+ 5-dr with a/c, £6,900 provisional 8,106 mile Rover 45 2.0TD 113 Connoisseur, £6,350 provisional 6,849 mile Rover Streetwise 2.0TD 101 5-dr, a/c, £4,800 provisional 1,999 mile Rover 25 1.6Si 5-dr, sunroof, alloys, £5,275 provisional 2,726 mile MG ZR 1.4 105PS 3-dr, a/c, alloys, £5,900 provisional In contrast, almost everything readily saleable was expensive. -
Something For Everyone at Auction Today 12 Apr 2004 (News)
Easter Monday’s Top Car sale certainly drew the crowds, and early arrivals also took advantage of the Hall 3 part-exchanges. Top Car of the day was the left-hand-drive Ferrari F360 Modena F1 Spider in the photo, imported from Spain and with only 7,000 kilometres under its wheels. It sold for a very reasonable £83,000, which has to leave plenty of profit for someone re-exporting to a LHD country and begs the question why it ever left Spain in the first place, where tax-paid Ferraris are a lot more money than they are here. -

The status stuff was mostly high mileage which meant you could park something big on your drive without having to sold your back garden. Or a 99V Merc S320 in obligatory silver: 75k, started at just £16,000, but finished at £20,500. -

Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 13-6-2015 13 Jun 2015 (News)
Unfortunately we were blocking someone’s drive and there was a delay of 20 minutes before we managed to start the engine again and complete our journey. We took the car to our Hyundai garage, but they could find nothing wrong, so I stopped at a supermarket on the way home where the car failed to start once again. -

. The bill came to about £4,000 with VAT. That was last autumn and I have just taxed it from the 1st April. Q1: I am now driving it again and find the brakes very spongy and lacking bight. Do you think I ought to wait a bit, to see if they will sharpen up, or take it back to the garage pdq? Q2. My garage man says driving it on unleaded fuel will be fine. I'm not so sure. What's your advice? -
NEW ENGINES AND TRIM FOR ALFA 159 RANGE 27 Aug 2009 (News)
However it is the flexibility of the in-gear acceleration that sets the engine apart from its competitors; with 25 - 62 mph in fifth gear achievable in 11.5 seconds and 37 – 62 mph in sixth gear reached in just 8.9 seconds – this translates, in real world driving, to a more sporting driver experience consistent with a ‘flat’ torque curve and a constant delivery of power - perfect for confident overtaking and long distance driving. In addition, the 1750 TBi version includes a mileage extension to 21,000 miles between routine maintenance intervals. -

Enabling the disabled Following a stroke my brother is now partially disabled and no longer drives. My sister-in-law drives him and needs a hatchback into which she can easily load a small mobility scooter. What models can you recommend please. Preferably, the floor should be flat so she does not have to lift over a lip. Also petrol, please. -

Today’s Auction Prices Broadly in Line with Glass’s new Valuations 1 Aug 2012 (News)
Glass’s Guide has revised its trade price structure, now showing an average trade price and trade prices broken down by three levels of condition. So, it seemed appropriate to drive down to Blackbushe and get my feet back on the auction floor. Today, I looked in on a couple of fleet sales by Lombard and Leaseplan, some Inchcape part-exchanges, some nearly-news from Volvo and an interesting selection from UK Car Group, including a 9k mile 12 reg Range Rover Evoque 2.2SD4 Prestige auto, not yet in the Book. -

Having thoroughly enjoyed themselves, they piled into the Coupé and roared home, but overloaded with passengers and driving somewhat enthusiastically, the farmer scared himself and consigned the car to his shed, never to drive it again. The current vendor - who purchased the car in 2007 - vowed to retain as much of its rustic ‘barn find' charm as possible by choosing to keep the paintwork as found. -

Hidden Heroes: Fiat Bravo HGT 10 May 2019 (News)
The extra 10 horses, along with some Abarth body styling features, made it even more interesting to drive. It handled tidily, too. It wasn’t as grippy as the 306 GTi, nor as pin-sharp as the Civic VTi, but it felt assured and rewarding when barrelling down a twisty road, with only a typically Fiat notchy gear change letting it down. -
Hidden Heroes: SEAT Toledo V5 5 Apr 2019 (News)
First, it’s an oddball, and we like cars that don’t conform. Second, it’s a cracking car to drive, and those high running costs, coupled to the fact that not many people know what it is, mean that used prices are devilishly cheap. Scouring the small ads, the cheapest example we found was just £295, with four months’ MoT, while if you’ve got £1000 to spend then apart from the examples already cherished by enthusiasts, you can pretty much take your pick. If you do, then what you’ll end up with is a real Q-car. -

After spending all day working on old machinery, Emily drives home in her own modern classic, a Rover 100 – the later incarnation of the successful Austin Metro. ‘It’s one of my favourite cars,’ she says. ‘My mum had one when I was about five or six and I really liked hers, while my grandparents had two Metros. -
