Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - Use independents? Yeah, right! 7 Feb 2010 (Forum)
When I asked if it might just be the switch, I was asked if the coil light came on at the same time. It didn't, so this bloke assures me that it's not the brake switch. Take a gamble and nip into the Seat dealer down the road. Fault codes read for £20, gave me a free ticket for the park and ride, and when I got back the car was valeted as well. Turned out it was the brake switch ("Implausible signal") - so I'm kicking myself now. -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 99 1.8 ABS fuse keeps blowing 30 Nov 2009 (Forum)
So I did all the obvious things like checking the sensors but could not fix the problem. Then the other day someone told me I had no brake lights at all. I discovered the fuse had blown and so I looked up what it did and it was the following: 25A Reverse light switch - Auto box relay - Brake lights switch - Day running lights relay - Cooling Fan relay - Pressure switch control - Compressor relay - ABS control unit I put in a new fuse and magically my ABS light switched off and the car was fixed :) (worryingly Id been driving for weeks with no brake lights) Anyway this morning the light came back on and the fuse has blown again. -
"Stupid car" it`s run down the hill on it`s own. 26 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Perhaps that`s a safety issue when teaching Numpties - so it`s less of a complexity when setting off and less chance of them starting it in gear? Maybe that is a spin off from `gears are go - brakes are for braking` as my niece once TOLD me following learning how to drive ( and heaving heavily on the brakes without changing down and then holding it at the junction in gear instead of neutral - waiting until the lights changed) Over on another forum a while back a lad was complaining at his neighbours for telling him off for not leaving his car in gear ( twice it had run slowly to the bottom of the hill and been found resting against theirs) Point is, he had never heard of leaving a car in gear and it went along the lines of the modern times comment of `stupid car`. -
Vauxhall Zafira A (1999 - 2005) - 2004 1.6 Engine cut out then light came on 7 Dec 2008 (Forum)
The car was due a service about a month ago but haven't had the funds to do so yet so could it be possible it has something to do with that? I also drove over a pot hole the other day and ever since when I have to brake harshly the brake pedal doesn't feel right, Feels rough and shaky. Normal braking is fine it's just when I brake harshly that it does that. -
Mazda 323 2003 : brake discs failed MOT 12 Apr 2006 (Forum)
2) Is 36000 miles in 3yrs a fair lifetime for front discs? (The car is under its 3yr warranty until the end of this month, although the brake repairs are being done by an independent garage which may spoil things for me.) The twist in the tale is that I can't go back to the Mazda dealer, because they closed four days after I had the service done. -
Recent posts update 29 Sep 2001 (Forum)
Just to pick up on a couple of recent threads; coming into work this morning on the M62 showed how right many are in this forum: Weather wet, mist and spray but visibility not too bad, traffic doing about 65, lots of LGVs road long gentle climb on the top of the moors between J23 Hudderfield and J22 Ripponden, heading west. On the bike in the 3rd lane leaving about 3 seconds gap by the lampposts. Brake lights start to come on in the line of traffic ahead so start to slow down. The car I am behind (Silver Vectra) no brake lights. Suddenly brake lights come on and it swerves violently into lane 2 undertaking traffic in lane 3 at a rate of knots, just lucky that no one is already in lane 2. -
Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1997 1.3 Car is loosing oil, water and brake fluid 26 Apr 2008 (Forum)
My Fiesta is playing up again. All year I have had brake light warning lights, each time my mechanic has found minor problems with the brakes and fixed them all including four new pads. I had it served in October and all was fine, no problems with oil burning at all. -
Getting dealer to fix faulty Mazda 20 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I explained the problems and booked it in to be looked at. The service manager said that they could stop the brakes squealing but the problem might recur because "brake pads can't contain asbestos anymore". The car was with the dealer all day on 18 December. When I picked it up one of the mechanics explained that the jerky throttle response had been because of it being "coked up" and that they had used some kind of throttle cleaner. -
Hyundai i10 - Thoughts on a Hyundai 3 Jan 2021 (Forum)
After five and a half years ownership my first MOT 'fail' As expected with i10's it was the rear discs and pads which after the fail, were replaced by me for 50 quid. Actually, five years isn't bad considering rear brakes are a weak item with these cars but my MGB has gone fifty years without needing rear brakes replacing so why do modern cars have discs all round? -

Avensis Auto - Automatics at traffic lights 4 Sep 2013 (Forum)
My father-in-law drives an Avensis auto. After advice, when at traffic lights and he has to wait he puts the parking brake on, and the gearbox into neutral. Is this right? I have told him it is as he doesn't dazzle the driver behind and I thought it to be less wear on the brakes and gearbox. However, his wife thinks this is vey wrong and he should simply use the footbrake. -
Citroen C5 Estate 08 - starting problems with car 17 May 2013 (Forum)

Ford Kuga - Noise Issue 13 Aug 2012 (Forum)
After driving for several miles a high-pitched noise can be heard coming from the rear / driver's side. It stops when the brakes are applied, even slightly, so I assume that it is associated with the brakes. The local Ford dealership has been unable to identify the cause, possibly because their test drive was too short. Has anyone else experienced this problem, or can suggest a cause and solution? -

Honda Accord Tourer (2003 - 2008) - 04 - 2.2 diesel - Sidelight Fuse Blown 19 Jan 2010 (Forum)
The fuse controlling the sidelights has blown, and only discovered this last night. The headlights are OK, but when I hit the brake pedal, with the ignition switched off, the brake lights work and the rear fog light comes on at the same time I have a towing bracket and wonder if the associated wiring or relays are the problem.
