Kia EV5 2025: Prices, specs and release date

  • New Kia EV5 electric family SUV is an electric Kia Sportage alternative
  • Has an estimated range of up to 329 miles
  • Uses latest Kia infotainment system with AI chat assistant and a ‘pet mode’
  • Arrives in UK in Q4 2025 with prices likely to start from £37,500

The new Kia EV5 has been revealed in European form ahead of its arrival in the UK later this year.

The new Kia EV5 is effectively an electric alternative to the best-selling Kia Sportage. Alongside the Sportage’s petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid power, the new Kia EV5 expands the offer to a long-range EV.

The new Kia EV5 is expected to have a range of almost 330 miles and it will have rapid charging functionality to reduce the time spent at public rapid chargers.

The new Kia EV5 is packed with technology. It uses Kia’s latest ‘connected car navigation cockpit’, or ccNC and even has a ‘pet mode’ that keeps the climate control running when you’re parked up.

The new Kia EV5 slots into the range above the Kia EV3, which is the reigning UK Car of the Year. It is positioned below the large seven-seat Kia EV9.

Rivals for the new Kia EV5 will include the Skoda Enyaq, the Ford Explorer and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 among others.

2025 Kia EV5 prices and release date

The new Kia EV5 will be launched in the UK in Q4 2025. Prices will be revealed in the build-up to its winter launch.

New Kia EV5 prices are expected to start from around £37,500 and there should be a decent amount of choice below the important £40,000 premium tax amount.

2025 Kia EV5 styling, interior and technology

The new Kia EV5 continues the modern, expressive styling already seen on the Kia EV9 and Kia EV3.

It has ultra-slim LED light bars that create a unique pattern. This is accentuated by the closed-off front bumper design that’s aero-efficient.

With its wide, squared-off nose and strong bonnet curves, the new Kia EV5 has plenty of presence, while the lower front bumper adds a rugged look.

The new Kia EV5 has particularly distinctive alloy wheel designs set within the rugged black wheelarches. It has a tall roofline that remains flat as it moves rearwards, promising good rear seat headroom.

At the rear, the new Kia EV5 has full-width ‘Star Map’ LED lights, mirroring the slim and modern look at the front. The roof spoiler is particularly large, to boost efficiency and there’s a lower skid plate.

Overall, the new Kia EV5 has a Cd drag coefficient of 0.29. A subtle rear boattail shape to the roof helps here, as does the flat underside.

The new Kia EV5 is also available in GT-Line trim, with more gloss black and sporty design touches including more aggressive front and rear bumpers. This is expected to be popular in the UK.

Inside, the new Kia EV5 has a similar open-plan look and feel to the Kia EV3 and Kia EV9. The dashboard has clear lines with a wide panoramic display as the centrepiece.

The new Kia EV5 has two 12.3-inch screens with an additional 5.3-inch touchscreen climate control display in between. Pleasingly, there are also physical controls for cabin temperature and fan speed below the centre air vents.

The new Kia EV5 runs Kia’s latest connected car navigation cockpit tech, or ccNC. It has over-the-air updates, an AI chat assistant powered by ChatGPT and offers entertainment packages including Netflix, Disney+ and YouTube.

The new Kia EV5 has a ‘pet mode’. Similar to the Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y, it maintains the climate control when the driver is away, as well as locking the cabin and disabling interior buttons so pets can’t accidentally activate them. A message on the screen reassures passers-by that all is safe.

The new Kia EV5 has a neat drawer-style centre console and there’s plentiful stowage all around the interior. Kia has calculated there’s 16.5 litres of stowage space in the cabin alone. There’s even an interior three-pin plug socket.

The new Kia EV5 should be roomy in the rear, while the boot expands from 556 litres with the seats up, to 1650 litres with them folded flat. The boot floor is adjustable up and down by 100mm.

The new Kia EV5 has a 44-litre frunk for storing charging cables. As for overall size, the new Kia EV5 is 4610mm long, 1875mm wide and 1675mm tall. This means it is 70mm longer, 10mm wide and 30mm taller than the Kia Sportage.

2025 Kia EV5 performance, battery and range

All new Kia EV5 models will have an 81.4kWh battery at launch. This long-range setup is estimated to give a range of up to 329 miles.

The new Kia EV5 will support 150kW rapid charging, taking the large battery from 10% to 80% charge in around 30 minutes.

Interestingly, the new Kia EV5 uses higher-capacity NMC battery chemistry for Europe, rather than the LFP cells used in China.

The new Kia EV5 will also support bi-directional charging and offers V2L functionality delivering up to 3.6kW of power.

The new Kia EV5 has a single 214PS electric motor, delivering 295Nm of torque to the front wheels. Acceleration from 0-62mph will take 8.4 seconds and it will have a 102mph top speed.

The new Kia EV5 has a 1200kg maximum towing capacity. It will offer a choice of 18-inch or 19-inch alloy wheels.

The new Kia EV5 will have plenty of modern safety assist tech. This includes Smart Cruise Control 2, or SCC2. This can, in the event of an emergency, bring the vehicle to a full stop if the driver is unresponsive.
