V5 + VED Nightmare

Fri, 31 Jan 2003
The DVLA has acknowledged the problems its insistance of no VED without a V5 is causing.

So it has put in place some procedures to speed up the process of issuing V5s to genuine applicants in some circumstances:-

To minimise the risk of people who are refused a tax disc being tempted to drive unlicensed, DVLA is introducing the following measures to speed up the issue of a V5 in genuine cases:-

A telephone application service (0870 240 6415) for duplicate documents, for issue within 24 hours

An over the counter relicensing service at local Vehicle Registration Offices provided that an online check of the record confirms eligibility.

Additional processing teams at DVLA to provide a fast track service to genuine applicants – but whose details differ from those on the record, e.g. because they have changed address.

Further information about the changes to the re-licensing procedures can be found at www.dvla.gov.uk
