Honest John Saves Australian $3,000

Thu, 07 Feb 2002
When Australian Bruce Isbister's Holden Vectra threw its timing belt he was justifiably upset. He was even more upset when his Holden garage presented him with a bill of $3,000 to repair the damage and refused any kind of goodwill payment. Then he looked up the Vectra in the car by car breakdown at and found that British Vectras had been recalled for the same GF50 timing belt pulley fault that caused his disaster. He e-mailed Honest John for more details, then confronted the dealership and GM Holden Australia with the evidence. Result: a full refund of his $3,000 dollars, plus an extra 10,000 kilometre warranty. As Bruce wrote in his e-mail of thanks, "It wouldn't have happened without the information that you provided."
