New Vauxhall Meriva. - Clicking sound. - vauxhall

Like everywhere else,my village is covered with snow.I was driving up the hill this morning and when my car was getting stuck in the snow,there was a continuous clicking/ratcheting sound coming from thefront and the car wasn't moving forward.What would this sound be.The car is fitted with Traction Control and ESP plus.Is it anything to do with these?Any help would be much appreciated as I am afraid I have damaged something although once I got unstuck,the car seems to drive o.k.

Sounds like the esp/abs system cutting in and out.Perfectly normal.My mondeo does the same.You may find it a benefit to switch off the esp system in deep snow to enable you to "rock" the car out of snow.hth

Thanks very much for your reply.It's good to know this is normal and not something wrong with my car.I'll switch off esp and traction control going up the hill until I'm on the main road.
