My 2008 Ford Ka Style Climate 1.3 has covered 6,040 miles on its stock tyres - Kleber Viaxen 165/65/R13 tyres. I have kept the correct tyre pressure maintained. I will admit I have hit quite a few kerbs when parking, but never at high speed.
Are the hairline cracks visible on the photos normal for tyres that have covered only 6,040 miles?

The car is a little young to be showing admittedly small hairline cracks in the shoulders, i'd have expected sidewall cracks if you had been running them under pressure.
Have a look for the makers date code which is part of the DOT code, the evr excellent 'carbibles' tells you how to read the code.

I'd certainly be keeping a beady eye on them and would be pointing them out to my dealer, with some annoyance if they turn out to be old stock.
These would be front tyres presumably.

Had a look, says 3807 so I guess the 38th week of 2007?
The car was manufactured in November 2007.
The pictures are of front AND rear tyres.

Not overlooked old stock then, and you do surprise me that rears have gone the same way, they don't get anything like the stresses that fronts have.
Talk to the dealer soonish?
Like you no doubt i wouldn't be overjoyed at that sign of perishing, and would be hoping for a proprtaional wear allowance on a new set, maybe another make too.

I do have Tyre Cover, which the dealer persuaded me to get when I bought the car. It cost me £175 and covers the tyres from "damage" for 3 years.
Maybe I will try and get a replacement set of four Falken Sincera SN-828 tyres under this cover I have...

Your worrying over nothing there not at all bad and there perfectly safe just drive it.
|
I agree;they're not cracks and they are nowhere near the carcase! I think your insurance company will not be interested.
|
they look perfectly safe to me

Thanks guys. I'm going to stop worrying about the tyres. :)
I asked a bunch of people (and on another forum as well), majority of them saying not to worry about it. Just thought I'd best check. I have no idea what's normal for tyres because this is my first car.
Anyway, thanks again.

That's just flexing of the treads. If you had cracks in the actual sidewall then you should be concerned.
