wheels off ground - parking? - tack
There is a guy in London (lawyer don't you know!) who parks his motor cycle on yellow lines. Every time he gets a ticket, he challenges it on the basis that his bike is on a stand which causes his wheels to be entirely off the ground. He has had 100 tickets and failed in each case. Why doesn't he give up? One interesting point which comes to mind though......what if a low loader with a couple of vehicles on it is parked on a yellow line, could all the vehicles get a ticket? I mean, their wheels are not on the ground either.

The normal arrangement for a motor cycle, on a centre stand, is that one of the 2 wheels will be in contact with the ground so the issuing of a ticket would seem to be appropriate. Sounds like a good man to avoid if you are looking for a lawyer - it he can't win his own cases he isn't likely to do much better for his clients!

What's his name?

If parking with the wheels off the ground avoided a parking ticket, I think lots of people would be parking on sheets of newspaper, etc. Same principle. Equally useless, the thing's *still* parked.

Why doesn't he just cover up his numberplate with a bin liner, or get a full motorbike cover? Pretty sure there was a previous posting on here saying that it's against the law for a traffic warden to tamper with a vehicle to be able to read the numberplate.

Or get ten Marines to roll it over on its roof on some nice soft grass or mud, with its paws in the air.

There is an even more drastic and outlandish option - park somewhere legal, and pay the parking fee. Or aren't lawyers paid very much in London these days?

Not a good idea: failure to display From the Bill re Clean Neighbourhoods etc "Clause 16 amends section 101 of the 1984 Act. It makes various amendments to subsection (3) that mirror the amendments made by clause 12. It allows for the removal of vehicles that do not display either a valid licence or a registration mark (plate) and also removes the requirement to wait for the expiration of a valid licence before the vehicle can be disposed of." Brought into effect by Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005.

>>what if a low loader with a couple of vehicles on it is parked on a yellow line,

And if that gets off... Trailers can't get parking tickets, don't need to be licensed or insured - am I right?

So why not trail a trailer behind you, and when you want to park, park the trailer and drive up onto the trailer. Do wonders for congestion...

Lets have him PU?

Holliday v Henry [1974] decided that a motor vehicle separated from the road surface by roller skates is nevertheless ON the road................and all that entails.

Dumped trailers without drawing vehicles ...bring 'em on. Much legislation to deter.
