Numismatist alert.

I was making a payment from petty cash today when I spotted a 20 pence from the Isle of Man had slipped into the box.

The coin however was different from the English 20 pence in that it has two cars on the reverse.

The question is , what cars are they and does anyone know why the I o M have them on their coins ?

Also have any other UK coins / notes got motors on them? I can't recall any.

No, but in contribution I have an IOM 50p with motorbikes on it, for obvious reasons!

Googling suggests it's a Impreza WRC & an Escort Cosworth

Also found a pic of the coin itself:- img261.imageshack.us/my.php?image=coinforweb3ln.gif

Well spotted Dave - I did a google on I o M currency but did not find it.

The one I have is dated 1997 not 1996 as advised on the Scooby Forum, I wonder if that makes it rarer?

OK all you Impreza and Escort Cosworth owners ( or indeed any backroomer ) - I will mail the aforesaid ( slightly battered ) collectors piece 20p free of charge to whoever gives me the best reason for wanting it....

It will be a very long time before we see any interesting car on mainland currency!

Is that a reason for wanting it or just a general observation Tomo?
