Cavalier door trim - dickie
I had to remove the black door trim on the offside passenger door. Somehow the front edge had been caught by something and bent it. On trimming it, there was a sharp edge remaining from the crome part of the trim. Garage said it would be an MOT failure, next time round.

So question is what can you use to remove the old adhesive, to prepare it for a new trim.

It's a 1993 1.8GLS. Not that this matters.

Use a hair drier, or hot air gun to soften the adhesive, then a solvent such as white spirit or Iso-Prop alcohol to remove the remaining residue afterwards.

Iso-Prop alcohol.Often used for cleaning glass. Bear in mind its highly flammable. make sure no one else is around that is a smoker/no chance of causing a spark..lethal otherwise....white spirit isnt as dangerous.

I've had this problem on both Omegas (what is it with vauxhall & crappy trim strips?) and rather than pay 30 quid plus for a new strip I just taped over the ragged end with some black insulation tape. Kept MOT man happy.
