I know now when it is time to change your car. When you see a car, abandoned in a layby the same year as your own!
Saw, last night, a P reg Escort abandoned looking like it’s being picked clean of parts and kicked in at the same time. Probably no doubt be torched eventually as that is the routine these days.
Seems the whole life of a vehicle is getting shorter and shorter these days. So the question I ask is will this savage depreciation thing get worse or better in future years?

Natch! That's the time to _buy_ it. If people dump P reg escorts, just think how low their second hand value is - for a car that you still rate.
Bangernomics 4 ever!

We're obviously not that well off in the North East then, as we can't afford to dump P reg Escorts. Although there is an F reg one abandoned outside my street as I write this.
The sad thing is, this F reg car looks in very good condition, no body damage, very little rust, I can only assume that it's been dumped for mechanical reasons...

P reg is still rated modern in Cornwall, where there are still Mk.1 V Reg Fiestas still running, albeit with tappets rattling so badly, you expect them to explode at any moment, but they keep on going !!!!!

I have to get this plug in - anybody ever seen an abandoned Volvo estate, of any age? No, because they are still running!

Here, here, Dude. I'm just over the otherside of the Tamar Bridge and can report that Plymouth is full of old crates as well - including mine! I only got rid of my B Reg Nova, with 175k on the clock 'cause the head gasket died, taking the engine with it.
Now proudly driving an F Reg Pug 309D, with only 130k on the clock. Practically no rust, 50 to the gallon, simple reliable mechanics - years left in the old girl!
Bangernomics rules!

Hi jazz
You must be in Saltash then!
I am around 10 miles from you.
I must be one of few who has parted with a four figure sum for a 10 year old motor, then again I have bought a Discovery!
FSH and 95K on the clock. Those TDIs go on for ever!
However the same rules apply. Rather than spend 15K upwards for a 4 year old model, I chose the route that would get the spec I want and at the right price, and minimal depreciation. That vehicle will still be worth £1000 in ten years!
Talking of P reg, I had to sell my P reg petrol Xantia over e bay, just needed to get shot of it. £460 I got for it, still someone got a bargain! I would rather they use it themselves than sold it on for a profit. If I were not fussy about a car, it's the sort of thing I would do.
